Swap Contracts

I'm looking at pre-ordering the new M5 iPad Pro - the pay monthly contract comes with something called Swap36 - I understand the gist is that I can swap the device after the 36 months and I would have to send the device in for trading and it will be valued and taken off the new contract etc. - however I am not understanding whether I am *obligated* to swap? As of right now my intention was to keep the iPad for many years beyond the 48 month contact and not swap the device unless I absolutely need to, the option is nice to have but - can I just not swap and keep the device after the contract ends? Is there any extra hidden fees for doing so?

No, you don't have to swap. You can keep the device. Payments should reduce for that last 12 months until the iPad is fully paid off. I've recently fully paid off my iPhone.
