Sky Mobile Ireland VOLTE not working

Has anyone else that has  ported to sky mobile had issues with VOLTE not working?

Everytime I make a call my data just drops. 

Not a handset issue as was always fine with Vodafone and my wife's Eir sim.

Have been told it's a known issue but they don't have a timeframe of when it will be fixed, but customer service have said it is being worked on.

I have done all the troubleshooting stuff I've been asked to try and nothing made a difference.

Just wondering has anyone that's ported over actually have VOLTE working??

This is because there is no 3G on Vodafone ireland. which Sky use. It degraded back to 2G for calls,  which can't carry data simultaneously. It should use 4G VoLte for calls and simultaneous data. I was with AnPost mobile which also used Vodafone, and when 3G disappeared, we were degraded to 2G for calls. AnPost made no attempt to resolve this. I've just today changed to Sky. and though I've now got 5G, connection still degrades to 2G during a call. I've changed my phone to a better model. but im6not seeing VoLte listed in the settings. I'll try the som in my old 4G phone which had a VoLte setting, which had no effect while using AnPost sim.

@Deezell , cheers!! if only sky customer service could actually explain this to me at the start lol, I've had a lot of calls for updates on the issue!!  They have ensured me they are working on resolving it, So fingers crossed it gets sorted soon!!

I've read some discussions on other forums outside Ireland where the setting for VoLte does not list in the 'Mobile Networks' menu under 'Connections'. This is the case with my used unlocked S21 plus 5G, and ots possible the phone which when new was configured  to Three. Network, did not have the VoLte or WiFi calling options included in Three branded versions of the phone. I presume then that I may need to have the phone flashed with a generic non network OS and software to see all the menu choices. My previous phone showed these options mind you, but on AnPostmobile, they still didn't work. On the AnPost Mobile boards thread, it was stated that the network must configure this at their end and show it in the APN file, and this should list as an additional APN file labelled IMS. I had such a file with my ApPost sim, not that it made it work, and AnPost support we lost. I do note in the Sky support pages under network setup that it gives specific instructions to IPhone users to enable Volte an wifi calling, so it must be intended that we have these features

The volte option is not an automatic setting option on your phone, its linked to your Sim which is why its in Sim settings so if your provider does not enable Volte then it won't show in the mobile network settings, prime example my new sky mibile sim cuts off my data when I'm on a call, and no volte options in my sim settings yet when i put in my mum's Three network sim it doesn't cut my data and the volte on/off option appears in the sim settings. In other words it only appears if your mobile provider offers it and Sky mobile does not but never bothered to tell us customers that before we signed up.

@FWX what phone do you have?

It seems most recent Samsungs & all iPhones have VoLTE for Sky - so likely other devices which will have lower priority won't have it yet as they would need to do testing and smaller manufacturers can especially be quite slow to do this.

You could consider using an app to enable for androids if needed, is a well trodden path for a lot of people worldwide - some phones will never have VoLTE enabled by retailers if they are too niche as well (so the apps can be a must)

Hey @Saint1 , I use an oppo find x3 but have a one plus on the way.. I'll try it in that and if it doesn't work I will try and app... Never even thought of that if I'm honest!! Would you have any you would recommend??

Generally for Sky/newer operators, would expect Oppo/One Plus to be on that slow burn of enablements. Unlikely they can commit to a date either if not enabled yet as all of this stuff sits behind NDA's.

Still not enabled. I can't imagine it's restricted to those who buy new phones from sky mobile. The vast majority would surely be existing handset owners. They even print instructions to iPhone users to enable VoLte an wifi calling, but no mention of android users. The non appearance of the VoLte option is surely down to them, and a fk up in the configuration files. I'm reasonably certain that there should be a seperate apn entry for IMS, and your phone needs to be registered by them on the carrier. Sky mobile launched with one engine disconnected, obviously rushed out for Xmas, could yet crash.

Of course, they don't work on samsung once you have a Sky sim inserted. USSD codes are blocked.
