Scam call on new number

So cancelled my sky sim and number got a new sky sim and number and within 3 days I have had a scam call. I only have the number to my family so how can this happen. It was an 0161 number saying they were from SKY it clearly was not and when I googled the number it is a scam. How can this happen with a new number, I would also expect someone from SKY to look into this.

@SimonJake

All mobile numbers across all mobile networks are recycled so there are very few numbers so it might be that this number you have now was previously with someone else in the Uk. You could try approaching Sky to see if they will cancel this one and order another one but there is no guarantee that this will not happen again.

@SimonJake

You've had a replacement number not a new number. Those are very rare. Scammers will call multiple numbers on the off chance one will be answered. Sky won't investigate this as any number the scammers use will be spoofed.

...and scammers use number range dialers - no previous awareness of numbers required...
