Running two contracts

I currently have two mobile contracts due to a early upgrade and I would like to know when my old device contract runs out so that I can send my old device back as I am paying for the two contracts?

When you upgrade (swap) you return the old device to pay off the remaining credit (subject to condition).

If you continue paying then it becomes yours and you don't have to send it back...

if you just purchased a new phone (instead of a swap) then you have two phones and cannot return the old one.

Re: Running two contracts

Hi

So it was a early upgrade and the person i spoke to suggested keep the contracts for both phone and when my old phone contract runs out then send the old phone back so my query is what date do I have to return my old phone?

@Juliesparkes You can only return the device as part of a swap, once you've paid it off/contract has ended you can't/don't need to reurn it.

Hi @Juliesparkes  they may be referring to this, it's nothing to do with your new contract.

It wasn't an upgrade (swap) then.  You (simply) purchased a new device - thus why you have 2 contracts.

The normal process is to swap where you receive a new device and then send your old device back to clear the outstanding credit (thus leaving 1 contract).  However, if it was an 'early' upgrade then it was almost certain the residual value of the old device would not cover the outstanding credit and you would have had a large immediate bill to pay.  That may be why it was suggested not to 'swap'.

You may have avoided the large one-off payment but are now paying for 2 devices.  It will be too late to 'swap' now so you have a decision to make.  You can sell the old device at any time but you are still liable for the outstanding credit.  (You can use the proceeds to reduce/clear that balance).

If you keep paying for the device until completion then you own it.  You can then do what you want with it...

You will continue paying until your contract for the old phone finishes, check your payment history to see when it will be finished @Juliesparkes  or sell the old one and use that to pay off what's left on the old contract.

I explained in detail in my post.

But simply, you have purchased two as it stands.

This has been explained @Juliesparkes that is called a swap and you should have completed that at the time of placing your order and sent your old phone back within two weeks of receiving the new phone. It looks like your options now are pay for 2 contracts or sell the old phone and use that to pay off what's left on the old contract if it's enough.

@Juliesparkes  It would seem you have been misinformed by sky

Sky will only give you a valuation on your old phone if you initiate a swap when you place an order for a new phone

if you ordered the new phone without initiating a swap then you are liable for the two contracts I'm afraid

Yes, you can still do that - but only for swapping for another device.  (So you'd still have 2)

As it stands you have 2 phones, 2 contracts.  The options have been given several times now.

Alternatively, if you think you've been 'misled' by Sky then start a complaint.
