Poor signal new phone

Recently took out new contract with sky, moved over from EE and I think I've made a mistake. I have 1 bar of 4g signal at best and generally no signal at other times. I'm used to 5g everywhere. 
I have gone through the online guidance and ended up at a reset your phone and send for repair option. I haven't done this as it seems extreme on a week old phone. 

would turning my sim to an esim help?

No.

 

If you are still within your cooling off period then you can cancel the SIM and move elsewhere.
