Pathetic Roaming in Europe

I am tired of my phone not working on trips into Europe. I have spent over half an you messing around with the self help. I would appreciate someone from Sky calling me - I have had over 10-15 bad experiences with roaming in Europe. It's a joke, and is causing me problems.

@Peter267

No one from Sky will call you, in fact they won't know who you are from a post as your Community name isn't linked to your Sky accounts.

What roaming issues do you have?

Re: Pathetic Roaming in Europe

Thanks Daniel,

so I cannot make calls this week, still receive calls ok but cannot ring out. Very annoying, (even worse than when any of the family try and call each other in the UK - about 80% of the time the calls to each other at home say the user is busy when they are not. It's unbeliveable that I have stuck with Sky for all these years, put four of the family on it. I don't know how less patient people even stay with the network - I just know to try again immediately after the failed call and it goes through. Explain that one to me please - but that's another story). This week, I cannot call French numbers, cannot call UK numbers - nothing. Texting works ok. Spend cap is on £55, so surely this is not the issue.

One trip to Italy, I had to ring sky on three different occasions over three days, apparantly that was to do with the spend cap that kept resetting itself. Every time they adjusted it and every time I had to ring them to set it back to the similar higher limit.

On another trip to Italy, one hour it would work, the next it would not. Ended up working out that if I manually selected one of the networks it would work ok - and stay working. Happy holiday after that.

Often the data does not work - even when after being connected and working it will drop off. I land, get my welcome text, message home, all good. So I get in a hire car, set of then the data drops. Leaving the airport, take a wrong turn and it won't auto correct - doesn't know where I am. Maybe that's to do with GPS satellites, who would know, but since data doesn't work and there is a good 4G signal something is not right. Then lo and behold, it will start working an hour later. It makes travelling abroad with hit and miss reliability challenging.

the inability to make a phone call is pretty annoying. Don't really want to go on sky app, download settings, etc etc etc. and then when all the trouble shooting doesn't work, I can't even find a number to call them, I get pointed to open source help from good people like you.

Thanks again

Peter

@Peter267

Calling local French numbers will be charged at international rates so will be expensive.

I've not used a mobile abroad for many years so may be not the best fellow customer to comment. Someone else may be in a better position to advise.

So having a spend cap at £55 may not be high enough? You need to ensure your spend cap is set to cover the days you are abroad, ie £2 per 24 hours, plus calls to local numbers (you haven't indicated how many or their duration).
