No signal abroad
I have spent a week abroad and it has always said "no signal" on my phone. I have been through the self help guide, chosen the local network (Sure) manually, turned roaming on/off, taken SIM out, checked network settings, turned phone on and off etc and no luck. I tried the online chat support 6 days ago and they said i needed technical support but they haven't replied. My wife's SIM is on a different network and works in my phone. Does anyone have any further thoughts please?

Re: No signal abroad
When you were abroad did you make sure your sim settings were set to abroad ?
Apple:
Settings > Mobile Service > SIM Applications > Make sure this is set to Abroad.
Android:
Sky Menu App or SIM toolkit > Roaming > Make sure this is set to Abroad.

Re: No signal abroad
Thanks for your replies. Yes, I tried toggling between 'home', 'abroad' and 'automatic', several times.
I'm on Ascension Island, which uses the O2 network locally. It is specifically mentioned as being able to use UK minutes here... so I presume I should be able to use it!

Re: No signal abroad
Do you have a spend cap set and is it high enough to cover your stay ?

Re: No signal abroad
I do have a small spend cap, but if the minutes are included I shouldn't need it and surely signal would appear, even if I couldn't use it to call?

Re: No signal abroad
I'm pretty certain roaming there does not given you access to any 'inclusive minutes'. (I don't believe it's a £2/day roaming passport destination)
The tariff (here) refers to International charges (Ascension Island is explicitly mentioned).
...but as you note it shouldn't prevent a 'no signal' unless your device (and/or settings) is not capable of connecting. Can you try the SIM in the other phone?

Re: No signal abroad
I don't think it's a device issue as my phone connected with a different sim in it. You may be right that Sky can't roam here as I tried my SIM in another phone and had 'no signal'. If that is the case it's frustrating because that's why I moved to Sky and it said Ascension was included in the minutes. Additionally, being an O2 network, I thought it would work. I can't get hold of Sky as the messenger chat isn't available to me when I returned to the same location as last week.

Re: No signal abroad
It's strange - the tariff could imply it's 'inclusive' (as long as you make local/UK calls etc.)
Being an O2 network should give it the best chance to work.

Re: No signal abroad
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I managed to get hold of support on the online messenger service and they have suggested a new SIM. They agreed that I should have service here. The only problem is that I can't receive a new sim as I'm abroad... & I can't receive a text to verify an eSIM. Thank you anyway.
