Mobile swap, scam?

I took a contract on s26 in April then decided to swap to s26 ultra in June. The s26 was amazing condition,  no scratches, breaks anything. Now sky have charge £990! For the phone. Getting passed through advisors all saying different things despite having an open case number.  Told the money would be returned as the phone had been valued now told the s26 is worth £0. Is this a common issue? What do I do! Thought it was a straight forward swap . Now hugely out of pocket and no phone.

The Swap scheme just isn't intended for such a short period of time: realistically your use of an expensive device had inevitably knocked a huge amount off its value, but you hadn't made accumulated payments to reduce the outstanding balance on the purchase price.

...well that doesn't sound right.

However, as noted, swapping way before the expected point (2/3 years) will always be expensive.  The residual value of the phone may not even cover the credit on it...
