Downsizing mobile data allowance

I have a mobile phone contract for my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra along with a monthly allowance of 40GB for £20.

I have overestimated my data usage when I took out my contract and have loads of data in my Sky piggyback.

I was wondering if I can reduce my data allowance to 20GB and save some money without penalty i.e. signing up to another 12 or 18 month contract?

By the way, I do know that Sky is going to reduce the period that you can roll over data from 3 years to 12 months.

This won't affect me as I would never roll over 250GB+ of data anyway!

I use Sky WiFi at home so my mobile data usage is low.

Many thanks 😊

Hi @Mikeyboy67  lowering your monthly plan doesn't start a new contract period, it continues in your original 12 month minimum term.

Indeed, and any discount deal you had are lost if you change your mix.

You should be able to change your data package by selecting one for your sim here:

Make sure "I don't need a new sim" or sim is selected.

I would presume downgrading would not start a new contract but couldn't say for sure so hopefully somebody else can say for sure if that is or is not the case.

Thanks for replying.

I'll ring up Sky to confirm if I need to sign a new contract.

@Mikeyboy67

Any downsizing of data plan starts at the next billing cycle after you change. Moving to a higher plan is almost instant.

Hi @Mikeyboy67  lowering your monthly plan doesn't start a new contract period, it continues in your original 12 month minimum term.
