Windows 10 - SKY Go check for updates then closes

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

SKY Go was working on my Win 10 desktop yesterday.

Today after the checking for updates it messages it just closes

I have unisntalled, rebooted and re-installed and still closes as soon as it has done initlal checks.

Anyone else getting this ?

Do I need to look for extra stuff to delete after an uninstall & before a re-install ?

TIA

BTW as a separate issue why on earth does it always check for updates (even after updating itself) and often take a noticably long time to do so

Did you do a complete uninstall of the hidden folders as just removing the app does not remove everything:

Uninstall the Sky Go app and then go to 'C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming (ensure hidden files/folders are visible) and delete the following folders:

Sky
Sky Go

And if it is present the Cisco and/or Synamedia folder in App\Data\LocalLow.
Empty your recycle bin.

Reboot your PC and then download and install the Sky Go app again.

Every now and again I have tried re-installing SKY Go & just had another go after uninstaling & deleting the relevant directories

I wonder if I am missing one - or whether it just doesn;t like my desktop

BTW my AV is AVG  Internet Security (paid version)

I really would like it to work on my desktop & find it frustrating that I can;t find any logs

Anyone know if there is any fiile I can tweak to force logging as it starts

Try turning AV off and give it a go - might find the issue.

No problems here as long as I remember to switch off the VPN for the duration.

Re: Windows 10 - SKY Go check for updates then closes

Thanks to BrianH I resolved this (in Windows 10) as follows:

Go to 'Windows Security'

Firewall & Network Problems

Allow an app through firewall

Change Settings

Allow another app

then Browse to:

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Sky\Sky Go\Sky Go.exe

to add the Sky Go.exe app to those apps allowed through the Firewall

You may need to change 'View' options in 'File Explorer Option'.

Re: Windows 10 - SKY Go check for updates then closes

I have the same issue and tried all the fixes but still closes after looking for updates etc. I do have a windows shield though on the desktop short cut, if anyone knows what this is about? The App is allowed through the firewall so I have no idea...any help appreciated.

Breach of contract 🙄 not a very cleaver move 😞

With a PC involved it is not always the Sky Go app at fault, there are many factors outside of Skys control that could be causing issues, antivirus, firewall, windows etc...

Re: Windows 10 - SKY Go check for updates then closes

yes but if you read some of the posts that are on here, you will notice a few people have had this problem,so it must be to do with sky,and without sky go,theres hardly anything to watch with just the daily listings,

I have read posts and at least one person said that their antivirus was causing an issue, which has nothing to do with Sky!

It's difficult to pinpoint problems when only, as you say, "a few" people have the issue and the majority don't
