Afternoon Everyone

Our support teams are currently investigating the problem and have asked some questions, we'd be grateful if you could answer the questions below as it will help them to get to the root of the issue.

  • Are you observing the issue on Windows 11 only?  If not, what version of operating system are you using?
  • Do you see the issue on a specific Sky Sports channel, or all Sky Sports channels? If it's a specific channel, could you please provide us with the channel name?
  • Do you observe the issue during the whole programme, or is it appearing intermittently?
  • What's the model of your device?
  • What version of the Sky Go app are you using?
  • Are you watching on an external monitor/TV? If so, how are you connecting your devices to the monitor, e.g. HMDI, display port etc.
  • Have you always experienced this problem, or is this new? Do you know when the problem started?

Thank you in advance for providing this information 😀

Thanks
Kev

Re: Sky Go windows 11 app red splotches on screen.

Hi Kev

Thank you for responding. The list of questions seem to suggest that when told of this issue your support teams had no clue whatsoever what may be causing it, which I find extremely difficult to believe.

This is part of the media stream that comes to us, not part of any mis interpretation by the apps or a software issue (well at least not at the client end)

However here are a set of answers from me as a return of the courtesy you showed by responding.

  • Are you observing the issue on Windows 11 only?  If not, what version of operating system are you using?11, although i know from web postings that others see this issue with other OS versions
  • Do you see the issue on a specific Sky Sports channel, or all Sky Sports channels? If it's a specific channel, could you please provide us with the channel name?I have seen this effect on Sports channels and general entertainment ones.  PL HD, Sky Mix HD (although i may have seen it on Atlantic with the American ScFi shows on endless loop i am unsure which one, Mix, Max, Atlantic. I have not done testing on SD channels as the pain of using the GO app with the crap image is just too much to bear.
  • Do you observe the issue during the whole programme, or is it appearing intermittently?Unsure, sorry, i have not sat and watched for the effect for the two hours of a football game
  • What's the model of your device?     grrrrrrrr MSI Gaming laptop i9 RX70 16 GB SSD, WiFi and Lan. Connection medium makes no diff
  • What version of the Sky Go app are you using?

23.6.2 - 23.5.1, is the second digit set the old version that was updated from ?

  • Are you watching on an external monitor/TV? If so, how are you connecting your devices to the monitor, e.g. HMDI, display port etc. Yes: HDMI - Modern cable
  • Have you always experienced this problem, or is this new? Do you know when the problem started? Sorry unable to eloborate

  • Windows 11 23H2 build 22631.3447 here
  • I see the issue on Sky Sports F1 HD, Sky Atlantic HD, Sky Showcase HD.  Not present on Dave HD, ITV1 or Gold HD)
  • Whole programme, even during adverts
  • HP ZBook Power G10
  • Sky Go version 23.6.2 - 23.5.1
  • The issue is present when I'm watching on my laptop screen, or an external monitor connected via Thunderbolt (monitor is the Thunderbolt dock)
  • I've experienced this problem for several months at least.

Re: Sky Go windows 11 app red splotches on screen.

This issue is not unique to Windows - I'm noticing a similar blotchy / camo overlay on an Android tablet (Galaxy Tab S2).

This is apparent 24/7 on all Sky Sports Channels (Both the 4##s and 8##s).

Of the first 20 or so channels on the TV Guide, the only time I was able to recreate the issue was on Sky Witness ("FBI Most Wanted") - all the others were clear.  No concerns with any of the On Demand content.

I've been experiencing this issue for around the last six weeks while attempting to watch football. I'm using the current Play Store release (24.1.1), but the problem persists when rolling as far back as 23.6.0.

No such problems when accessing Sky Sports channels through the Sky Sports app - all clear.

Afternoon everyone,

I just wanted to hop on here to say we're still investigating the issue but struggling to reproduce it on our end.

We have a few more questions, if you can, please PM me with the below:

  • What the graphics card or graphic cards (brand and model) are in the laptop?
  • Are you using the discrete graphics card or the integrated graphics card while using Sky Go?  There is a thread related to this found here on Microsofts forum to help locate what app is using what graphics card, look for the last reply in this Microsoft community thread: Switch graphics cards - Microsoft Community
  • Is "video upscaling" enabled for your graphics card while using Sky Go?  This should only be possible on GeForce RTX 40 or 30 Series GPUs. If you happen have one of the above GPUs, the setting should be available in "Nvidia Control Panel" (Nvidia's Windows app). Here is the information from Nvidia's official blog post https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/rtx-video-super-resolution/

Re: Sky Go windows 11 app red splotches on screen.

Hi I'm experiencing this with the Sky Go app on my Xbox series S. Can you please look to update the app as this is clearly the issue.

Hi Chloe

Sorry about the delay getting back to you.  Also sorry if this is a double-post.

My system has 2 GPUs:

  • Intel UHD Graphics
    • Driver 31.0.101.4887
    • Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics / Raptor Lake-P
  • NVIDIA RTX 2000 Ada Generation
    • Driver 31.0.15.2919
    • AD107GLM

I've tried Sky Go using each GPU and the result is the same.  I verified which GPU was in use using Task Manager.

I don't think the RTX 2000 supports the upscaling feature - it's not shown in the NVIDIA Control Panel

Thanks for your help so far

Mark

I have the same issue - when HDR is disabled the problem isn't as bad, but still there

Re: Sky Go windows 11 app red splotches on screen.

My system info:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core Processor, 3801 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070

Monitor: 34GP950G - 3440 x 1440 res - 144hz

I tried with and without super resolution enabled via the nvidia control panel and it made no difference. The pattern is more noticable in dark areas of the screen.

Drivers are up to date.

Re: Sky Go windows 11 app red splotches on screen.

I have this issue with my Sky Go on Windows 11 and I can pinpoint the exact moment it started happening...

Been using Sky Go without any issues for *years* and I was watching sport on a 2nd monitor while working on something on my main screen and hit the "Print Screen" button to capture something I was working on and Sky Go instantly popped up with an angry message about screen capture devices and the overlay appeared and I haven't been able to get rid of it since.

It now appears on any device I use the app on (harder to see on some than others, but it's there) but it makes me suspect it related to some "anti piracy" thing Sky are trying to implement to prevent people streaming Sky Go (each overlay is probably uniquely identifyable...).

Re: Sky Go windows 11 app red splotches on screen.

I'm using NowTV so apologies if this is the wrong thread, but can't find much about this anywhere else.

Streaming ANY football game through the NowTV app on my Samsung TV or through my FireTV stick has the same red blotch/camo on the stream. Clearly nothing  to do with the Windows  or the GPU, as they both run on Android based OSs. This is clearly coming through in the data itself - especially clear when the stream is paused, but always present on the screen and impacts quality massively.

Not present on any of the standard TV Shows, just football so far. Haven't tested anything else yet.

Re: Sky Go windows 11 app red splotches on screen.

Any update on this? I'm using an Apple TV (whatever the latest version is) and I'm having the exact same issue. Watching F1 night races are dreadful! This has been happening for over a year now.

Re: Sky Go windows 11 app red splotches on screen.

New football season has started and the issue I reported on November 26th 2023 is still happening.

The first sky agent tried to blame my monitor. And ever since then more and more people have come forward with the same complaints and there is still silence from everyone at sky as to why this happens.

I can stream football matches for free in better quality than this? So tell me, why should I bother paying for sky sorts anymore? Wouldn't I be better off just cancelling.
