Re: Sky Go Not Working On Windows 11

My former PC with two displays on Windows 11 Home worked from the minute I installed Sky Go on it. I replaced it with a later refurbished model with Windows 11 Pro again with two monitors. It never worked , neither did my laptop until I had to reinstall Windows 11 Home but did not try Sky Go until today when surprise, surprise it worked straight away.

I use Chrome browser so I Googled "Problems with Sky Go very common among Sky customers. It installed on my Windows 11 Pro PC and my Windows 11 Home laptop. It loads on the Home and sub menus, plays Sound but black screen in place of video. It has started to work now on my laptop."

I don't know if you use Chrome with the first results of Google Searches by AI. I have used this method frequently to search for help and found it invaluable and very user fiendly. In my case it quickly identified a Fix which is as follows:

"The Sky Go black screen with audio error on Windows 11 is a known issue, frequently caused by multi-process rendering glitches or conflicts with recent Windows update security patches ........There are two highly successful workarounds shared by the community on the Help Forum that you can apply to get it working on your PC:"

Fix 1: The Task Manager Process Trick

Some users on the Sky Help Forum agree that Sky Go occasionally opens duplicate sub-processes that block the video rendering engine. You can force the video to kick in by manually closing these subtasks.

  • Open Sky Go on your PC and play a channel so you can hear the sound. (I used first of all and later by loading a programme that was showing)
  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager.
  • Sky Go in the list of processes and click the arrow next to it to expand its subtasks.
  • Right-click and End Task on the subtasks from the bottom of the sub-list upwards, one by one.
  • Watch the Sky Go window as you do this—the video should suddenly pop into view.(I clicked on the third task and the video opened)

Fix 2: Window Resizing

A simpler variant suggested by a Superuser on the Sky Help Forum involves forcing the graphics wrapper to refresh:
  1. Grab any corner or edge of the Sky Go window with your mouse cursor.
  2. Drag to resize the window (make it smaller or larger).
  3. This quick layout shift often forces Windows 11 to redraw the video player and clear the black screen.

I haven't tried Fix 2 as I spent several unsuccessful hours following AI instructions trying to get Sky Go working properly without using Fix.1  The problem with this eventually was identified as Sky Go being confused by using a 2 display set up. So for the amount of times I use Sky Go on my PC  Fix 1 is no great hardship.

I hope this may help someone. For anyone who wants to go deeper or it doesn't work for you and if you use Chrome, Google the same Heading I used or one to mirror your issue, then follow my friend AI.
