My Sky programmes on my iPad won't work when I have my Norton VPN running

My Sky programmes and Paramount programmes work on my iPad but won't work when I have my Norton VPN.  I receive the following error message.  Sorry an error occurred.  Please check your internet connection and try again.

There is nothing wrong with my internet connection, through Sky Broadband, and I have the same poroblem when at another location where the broadband is provided by TalkTalk.

The VPN does not affect Apple TV.

@JR51

VPNs are frequently used to attempt to reach UK streaming services from overseas, which the providers need to prevent because that's a breach of their agreements with the content rights holders.

As @Annie+UK indicates, Sky will try to block Sky Go connection to known or detected VPN endpoints: they can't tell you are in a legitimate location within the UK because that's one of the points of VPN technology.

Note that other companies can choose to treat VPN use differently if they wish.  Apple is a global streaming provider, while Sky is not: since Brexit a UK Sky subscription doesn't even extend to continental Europe for temporary travel and tourism use.

With the global streamers (Apple, Netflix, Amazon) you may find the catalogue of content is different when using VPN because they will try to only display content for which they have non-geographical rights.
