Dolby Atmos using External Input Source
A question for the knowledgable here: if I'm watching an external source on Glass, which has Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos - for example a movie purchased from Apple and viewed through a 4K Apple TV box - does the Glass TV output Atmos Audio?
If it does, is this dependent on whether you have the Sky UHD & Atmos add-on?
Or is Atmos audio ONLY output when viewing Sky content with the appropriate UHD & Atmos pack?
Sky Glass 65” [Gen 2]
Sky Glass 43” [Gen 1]
Sky Glass Air 43” connected to Sky Soundbox
Sky Stream Puck x4
Sky Ultimate TV, Sky Sports, TNT Sports, Sky Movies, Kids, Whole Home, UHD&Atmos, Ad Skipping
Sky FTTP
Sky Mobile SIMO x7

Re: Dolby Atmos using External Input Source
@82bit I use an Apple TV 4K with our Glass TV in the bedroom. Atmos content works fine from iTunes movie purchases, Disney+, Aople TV+ content etc. Taken to answer a different question last year, the following is from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, bought on iTunes apnd playing back from Apple TV 4k:
Attaching my Sony X800M2 4K Blu-Ray player though and playing the same film back on disc, Atmos doesn't play - instead Glass has the player downmix the audio to 2 channel stereo:
If you're using Atmos from a streaming source (so Atmos via lossy Dolby Digital Plus), you're ok. As far as playing back Atmos from a 4K BluRay (so Atmos via lossless Dolby TrueHD). Not sure if this is true for all Atmos/Dolby True HD bluray players though.
With regards needint the Sky UDH/Atmos add on to play back Atmos via Apple TV 4K, I'm almost vertain you don't need it (always had the add-on here ourselves). Given Atmos can be played from Prime, Netflix 4K tier etc without needing the Sky UHD/Atmos add-on, you should be fine playing Atmos via Apple TV 4K without the add-on.

Re: Dolby Atmos using External Input Source
@CoffeeDrinker Thanks for the detailed reply, it's an interesting read. It's good to know that if (when) I ditch the subscription, the TV doesn't go *completely* dumb and still functions as an ok display.
Annoying that the Glass TV itself doesn't tell you much of what it's doing in terms of picture processing, resolution, bitrate, audio processing etc, when you've got an external source connected.

I know it's been brought up before but even when fully sub'd up you're not getting everything that Sky said we'd get.
As an example I distinctly remember them boasting Dolby Atmos support would come as standard with their UHD content but that just changed to selected Sky UHD content one day.
Only have to flick over to to Sky Sports 1, Main Event or whatever name Channel 401 goes by these days to see the Edinburgh derby looking glorious in UHD.
You think to yourself the sound is OK but you do expect better so you check the audio app and there you go: yet again it's not Atmos:
