is Sky Glass Gen 2's screen is better with dark scenes?

This is what I need to know.

Blacks, dark scenes - a common feature for TV shows and movies these days - are terrible on Gen 1.

On shows such as Silo, I have to go to my PC or phone to watch them, as the blooming and pixelation is too distracting, and the scenes lack clarity.

If this isn't fixed, I have seen cheaper Samsung and Sony models of similar spec do a fabulous job in respect of such shows and scenes, so there'd be no reason for Sky Glass loyalty.

Currently, I seriously regret Sky Glass. Even the delivery guys skived out of installation which was part of the deal.

Hi

yes overall the screen is a much improved feature ....

brighter overall and more consistent back lighting from more angles. Blacks a re

much better. How this compares with other current TVs I have no idea as I haven't got one !

Has the awful ghosting/blooming issues gone with gen 2?

The biggest bug bare for me with gen 1 is the really annoying way blacks appear in low lit scenes. It's not discussed enough on this forum, which I'm surprised about. Watching the BAFTA Awards on Sunday and the moving zig zaggy, blotchy lines were all over the film stars black suits and dresses, bouncing up and down. I've never had a TV process colour in this way and once you see it, you're looking for it all the time and it really spoils certain programmes completely. And no, I haven't had high end TV's or OLED before, so coming from average-mid TV's (the same as Sky Glass) I've never seen this until now. At first I thought it was a fault with my set, so a "TV Expert" was sent out by Sky to look at it, in which I showed the worst examples. She authorised another Sky Glass to be swapped. It was the same on my second Glass, so obviously not a fault in the first place! That one developed a dead pixel so they sent out a third. Unbelievably, the third had a extremely noticeable red dead pixel the moment I turned it on and whilst the Sky delivery partners were still in my flat. On my fourth one now since June 2024 (which I know is refurbished) I should have just stuck to my original set in the first place which wouldn't have been pre-owned either and because on all sets the blacks have appeared this way in low lit scenes. Anyway - back to the original question - Can anyone confirm if this is finally the end of seeing the moving blotches and lines on the low lit black backgrounds with Sky Glass Gen 2? Or is it just less noticeable?

I've just posted asking about this too. Hardly ever see topics on this, which really baffles me as it is just so, so bad! Never seen it on any other TV in my life and I've only ever bought mid range TV's before. When you think Sky, you expect a premium product. They've never let me down with their technology before. I would buy Gen 2 but only if this picture flaw has gone for good.

Much improved? Turn on Emmerdale. Look out for a black coffee table or a black kettle in one of the scenes. Is it dancing with lots of blotchy pixels? That's what we need to know. I don't watch Emmerdale btw, but whenever I've left the TV on ITV1, this is one of the worst offending shows! I'd hate to be an avid fan of the soap as it's unbearable how it's ruined by the Sky Glass panel. And that fact gives me no pleasure to say as I've always spoken highly of Sky's products.

As I never had an original Sky Glass I can't really help. What I will say is that I have been watching the Gen 2 for a while now. I have watched episodes of Fire Country, West Wing, The Suspect and Chicago Fire and I have seen no problem with the blacks. They have certainly been on par with my Philips Mini LED which I thought was a major improvement on my previous sets. Sky Glass 2 is not a top end TV but it does the job well for me.
