Unimpressed with sky glass

Having recently so called upgraded to sky glass have found I am totally unimpressed and am really regretting  ever entertaining it. Recording is now at someone else's discretion plus one and catch up no longer exist  navigating menus are tedious. Whereas the Skyq I had previously was much more user friendly if sky glass is the future then I think it is time for me to seriously explore other options as my first impressions of having sky glass are certainly not favourable and I am  definatly not impressed

Hi 

no need for +1 channels when you have the watch from start option available on almost every channel. I did miss them when I switched to glass but no longer do!

the system is built around all of the catch up services so not sure why this is an issue to you ?

It can take a while to get used to having a fully streamed TV service rather than a hard drive recording type service. 

We have been a fully streamed household for over a year now after many years of having Sky+HD and Sky Q. We had initial reservations about losing the ability to record but have since changed how we watch TV and now find that it is second nature to search for everything we want to watch on demand. No need to managed recordings any more - everything is just there. 

Sky Glass is not necessarily the future, but streaming TV most certainly is. Yes, it is taking Sky quite a while to get up to speed with providing a good, reliable streaming service, but it also took a while for them to get Sky Q in a good stable condition. 

The other good thing about streaming is that Sky can offer it by different means. You can have the Glass TV if you want the all-in-one solution (a new v2 Glass TV is apparently to be revealed in a few weeks time) or you can have the Sky Stream puck and attach it to any TV you like. Or you can use the Now TV app on any other streaming device to receive Sky programming. It's great to have options. 

The whole streaming TV world is evolving rapidly and Sky does have a lot more competition these days so it's no longer in the unique position of having the satellite TV market sewn up. 

If you really don't like Sky Glass then you can return it easily within 31days of delivery. You can revert to Sky Q if you wish and then perhaps wait to see what the second generation of Sky Glass brings.

I agree. Sky glass only works if you have the rights to access programmes on some sort of catch up. I used to watch/record BBC programmes a lot but with sky glass because you can't access BBC iPlayer it's only possible to watch BBC programmes live which is a massive disadvantage and not one explained before I signed up.

Also I am constantly having problems with one of the sky pucks not working

All BBC on-demand is delivered through iPlayer on Glass & Stream: we're watching it right now.

Sky would not have released an online platform which didn't have iPlayer access.

It doesn't allow access to iPlayer if you live in Ireland. I appreciate that is done to the BBC's rules but this is not explained before you move across so you have to watch BBC live. With SkyQ I could record the programmes

Streaming has allowed content creators to regain control of their content ...  which they had lost in the era of VCRs and DVRs😉

Sky Ireland could pay the BBC to have access to BBC catch up🤔

You also can't watch Racing TV on Sky Glass. Live sport seems to be behind as well which is frustrating.

That due to nature of streaming rather than satelliete broadcasting.

Sky have been working on improving the technology to reduce the delay, with a low latency version of Sky Sports Main Event has been broadcasting for several months now which has the delay at only a couple of seconds behind the traditional satellite broadcast. Sky do have plans to roll that out to the rest of their sports channels, however i'm not aware of any current plans from WDB to invest in that same technology to improve the latency on TNT or Eurosport.
