@David07 wrote:I'm new to this group and this thread looks very relevant to my issue. I just got a new 55' Sky Glass 6 weeks ago and I'm really surprised and disappointed with the picture quality (mainly live sports which is the main reason I signed up).
I called sky today and talked through all the points below. In fairness the support team were very helpful and, after a few tests, they agreed to send a new TV. Hopefully this may resolve it otherwise I might have to look at rhe stream option.key issues:
Faint black lines on live sport
Clear different colour blacks
Hazy white from side view
Pixelated
UHD picture really poor worse
Live Sport and movies are washed out and white/hazy on movies and sports
You would be better off buying yourself a decent tv and taking out Sky Stream @David07

These issues will not be fixed with a new Glass TV. Some may be improved slightly, but it's important to remember that Sky Glass is a mass-produced, mid-range LED back-lit LCD VA-type panel. Colours will always fade when viewed off-axis - it's a downside of the panel type used.
As others have suggested, you will be much better served with a better spec'd, more modern smart TV with a Stream puck attached. It offers much better value, future-proofing and flexibility than Glass.

Ok thank you all. I think best option is to request a refund and switch to the puck. I'm still amazed that a brand new TV has such a low spec and poor picture quality. My 10 year old Sony had an amazing picture!

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@David07 I have had Glass for 18 months and recently purchased a new Samsung Smart TV and soundbar. I then changed my subscription from Glass to a Stream puck and am delighted with the result. I just wish I had done it ages a ago.
Good luck.

I've got to say the reset and activate / add to my account process was a breeze and took about 1 minute. Unfortunately no amount of twisting can get the remote back to life
don't even dare escalate me ....😂😂👍

If I were any of you replying to this thread I'd forget about a replacement Sky Glass. It's a waste of your time.
I got sent two and they were no different in any meaningful way. The panel they are using is just too poor a quality for the type of TV that it is especially for the overall price you end up paying.
You will never get something that can compete even with even a 5 year old Samsung or equivalent unless you buy a much higher QLED set.
Coupled with the lower streaming quality of Sky's service in general you won't end up happy. I switched to Sky stream and I'm so glad I did becuse I know that if I decide to stream from a non Sky stream device I will get a decent picture quality from that.
I do actually like the Sky stream service though because of the content it provides and not the picture quality itself which is very low in my opinion.
I don't know how anyone can be happy with Sky Glass it's one of life's strange mysteries to me. My original TV was the same size and pretty old and wasn't a top Samsung in anyway but it's was instantly noticeable how poor the sky glass was in comparison. I never felt right about it from the moment I started to watch it. No replacement will solve that.

@Steve_83 That pretty clear and my mind is made up now. I'm going to cancel the replacement TV and switch to Stream. Thanks!

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@David07 I recently moved from Sky Glass to a new OLED Samsung TV and stream puck and don't regret it at all. The combination of an OLED TV with the Puck gives an outstanding picture.

I finally got through to the Sky team that could support with switching from Glass to Stream (passed around various teams before I spoke to the Glass Loyalty Team).
As I was outside the 31 days they need to confirm whether they can refund my TV - I paid upfront. Anyone else pay upfront and get a full refund or not?

The issue isn't the payment: it's that outside the cooling-off period your grounds for rejection are a claim under consumer protection legislation that the set isn't as described / of satisfactory quality / fit for purpose, and Sky can choose to contest this because it's going to cost them money to accept.
