The microphone in the remote handset won't do anything unless the Voice button on the remote is pressed and held while speaking.
The microphone built into the television set should respond to the 'Hello Sky' trigger phrase.
Both can only understand a limited range of spoken input.

That usually means either the button wasn't held down during the whole speech input, or the system is struggling to understand enunciation or accent.

Yes, but only if it recognises the trigger phrase. Also, check the speech input hasn't been disabled.
To change the settings, you can either:
Press the … (three dots options) button on your Sky remote and select 'Microphone'.
Press Home on your Sky remote and scroll down to Settings, then select Privacy. Select Voice mics.
Press the top button on the right-hand side of your Sky Glass TV until it says ‘The mic is switched on’ or ‘The mic is switched off’.

Also, do you have an Ultimate TV subscription in place for Glass? Voice control is a subscription feature.

If you don't have an internet connection to the Glass set then nothing is going to work, including Voice Control.

It wasn't on before when we had previous router. Have had look at instructions for new router it says hub won't start working until the date on the box but there is nothing on the box and everything is plugged in where it should be
