Sky glass or not to sky glass???

Hey everyone, question for you about sky glass. Due to horrendously increasing bills on Sky Q I am pondering sky glass again. The one rub is the lack of recording function. I'm not adverse to streaming, I quite like watching via apps, the problem I have is when an app is not available. I like watching CNN, I currently record some overnight content to watch in the morning. Before I take the plunge, is there an option for such instances like this? TIA.

@Sue.S I don't know about CNN specifically. It is on Glass but don't know if you can add the programmes to your Playlist to watch later.

Stream and Glass are pretty much the same platform - it's just one comes with a TV and inbuilt Atmos sound system. Unless you need a new TV, Stream might be an option to consider?

I do like my Glass TV though having said that. I'd say look into the pros and cons online thoroughly and if there's a store near you that sells Glass, go for a visit and ask for a demonstration to see it before you buy.

The crucial difference is that Q can record anything which falls on the satellite dish to its own hard drive if the user wishes to do so.  On Glass and Stream it's up to each individual channel to choose whether or not to permit Sky to offer any particular item of 'recorded' (actually on-demand) content to subscribers.

Sky allows some content to be cloud recorded. However content from PSBs (BBC, ITV, C4 etc) force you to playback via their app.

It's worth nothing that there are limits on news items in the playlist. Sky say:

"News programmes can be added to your Playlist. Sky News, Sky Sports News and CNBC News can all be added. However, some news programmes can only be watched live while they're broadcasting due to licensing restrictions.

BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 news programmes are made available for up to 24 hours after the broadcast.

To help you catch up on all the latest news we have a dedicated 'News' category which pulls this all together for you."

I've playlisted CNN in the past out of curiosity and it cloud recorded fine, plus it series linked the programe I selected at the same time.

@Sue.S Few things that might be helpful:

1. If you want to wall mount the TV you need to order the mount at the same time as the Glass TV.

2. If you're a Sky VIP, then you can claim free premium delivery which allows you to pick a delivery window, have the delivery men unpack the TV and place it onto the stand. If you can't claim this offer, then be aware free delivery will take 3-28 days and the TV will be left boxed at your door. This version of Glass is easy to assemble (make sure you read the assembly instructions) but is a two person job.

3. Though the TV can connect via WiFi using an ethernet cable between the router and Glass (or Powerline adapters if router is in a different room) provides a much more stable connection. If you do use ethernet make sure WiFi is turned off in the Settings and that Networked Standby mode is set to On.

4. There are two issues with the firmware that some are experiencing that may or may not happen to you. The first is that the Auto Backlight feature is not able to be turned off at the moment. Some have had this issue, others haven't.

Secondly, the Prime Video app appears to be causing an issue with trying to watch live TV or playlisted shows or other apps where the screen will go black but sound is still playing. If you then try to load anything else you just get a connection error. Until Sky fix it the temporary workaround we have found is that if you log out of Prime Video before turning the TV off it appears to reduce the frequency of the issue occurring.

As I say you may or may not get either issue but if you do it's useful to know they are awaiting a fix.
