Sky will tell you anything to make a sale.
The Sonos Playbase does not have an HDMI eARC connection - it only has an optical input so additional hardware would be necessary to convert the audio. Sky Glass is temperamental with external hardware so if it cannot detect a suitable HDMI ARC > Optical converter then it simply won't work (as you've discovered.)
If you already have an external sound sytem that you are happy with then there is absolutely no point in buying a Sky Glass TV. You will get much better value, versatility and quality from a proper smart TV made by one of the more reputable TV manufacturers. You can then add a Sky Stream puck for an identical streaming service.
In short - send it back.
