Re: Sky Glass 2.0 Launch Details

This is all a bit silly, isn't it?

Some people like some tech, some like others.

It's good to debate the merits and cons of it, but this is going round in circles now with people repeating the same points at each other repeatedly and it's drowning out other conversation.

I think the point about you can get cheaper sets elsewhere and OLED is a superior technology have been well made now, so perhaps we can get back to discussing the product itself not what it could or should have been.

This is why you have a owners thread to just discuss Gen 2 and a general thread to discuss all options. Its basic forum etiquette that is clearly missed here

Compared with an LG oled put through a AV sound system ( you don't need high level speakers you can set to 5.2 to get Atmos )  having a sub does make a difference  but a bar speaker does not work very well compared to speakers around the room wireless would be better. Refresh rate stops blocky image retention I.e smooth image change 60z is is low most pc use this and use higher rate

I would think a 55" OLED and an AV sound system would cost more than a Gen 2 though.

Re: Sky Glass 2.0 Launch Details

At the end of the day people buy Sky Glass 1 or 2 for the convenience of having Sky TV without the need for a satellite dish in an all in one TV with a good set of speakers enclosed within. Yes there are better TVs and better sound systems but for the average person the picture and sound quality will be more than good enough. The convenience of paying for the TV on a monthly basis will also be a bonus for some. In my personal opinion Sky have focused on producing a product that has and will satisfy a need particularly in the future when we have to move away from satellite TV. Well done Sky.

Re: Sky Glass 2.0 Launch Details

People on here need to stop comparing the Sky Glass 2 a QLED to a OLED its not a fair comparison unless your comparing a older NON MLR OLED to a QLED.

OLEDS defeat QLEDS in everyway accept two

1: QLEDS can go brighter than almost all OLEDS even MLR OLEDS the ones that still cost £2000 for 55inch the premium OLEDS.

2: When OLEDS get hit with a super bright image examples would be certain games like very bright Nintendo games or Japanese Anime type content. When this happens OLEDS struggle (The very expensive MLR OLEDS that cost £2000 for 55inch that it is not fair to compare a QLED against arent so bad at this) But normal OLEDS can really struggle with this type of super bright content

3: Contrast ratio, not so many people know this but when a OLED agian is hit with a very bright image like what i said above Anime or super bright games their contrast ratio drops rapidly from Amazing to quite bad while QLEDS Contrast ratio remains exactly the same no matter the brightness. Again MLR OLEDS the very expensive ones which it would not be fair to compare a QLED agianst is more immune to this issue.

I have a another brand QLED not gonna mention which brand one of their highest end ones from 2024 and a MLR OLED and a older normal NON MLR OLED and i can tell you right now that at very bright content the QLED i own really beats the older non MLR  OLED very easily at incredibly bright content. I can see the contrast ratio drop it happens on Nintendo games since their so bright the QLED looks better a lot better!.

It is not really fair to compare OLEDS against QLEDS for real TV or movies as in TV or Movies with real actors not animated because no TV tech really matches OLEDS for that kind of content.

It is a great shame however that Sky did not make Sky glass 2, 120hz VRR ALLM compatible because QLEDS are VERY good at gaming and can get very close to OLEDS (normal OLEDS not the extreme MLR ones) and the picture difference can be very small.

Also I have not seen anyone on here mention the image processing chip. Every brand uses their own version of image processing i view them in my mind like a GPU but for a TV and their so important for image quality! This is why certain brands can look more natural or have better image quality on a cheaper TV with cheaper tech like QLED etc than another companys OLEDs becuase their image processing is better.

I could say the order of TV companys from best to worste for image processing but i wont not even sure i am allowed.

IF Sky Glass 2 has good image processing it well may be able to punch above its weight specially if its against a normal cheaper OLED that is not MLR type.

As for Mini LED and Micro LED and Quantum OLEDs I have not mentioned them because i have never owned any of them types of screen tech so I can't really comment on them.

Re: Sky Glass 2.0 Launch Details

I received my Glass camera today and I'm having an absolute nightmare setting it up, just flashes red and then disappears, says no source on HDMi, it says there is a reset button underneath which looks like a pinhole inside it, there is no button to physically push.

any ideas?

Sky Glass Gen2 65"
Sky Air 43" in bedroom
LG 65" TV with Puck in spare room.

Broadband with Seethelight as on new build estate that does not support Sky.

Re: Sky Glass 2.0 Launch Details

Your talking of Qled which is still led I.e lit from the side whereas oled micro oled can light each one on/off much better than side lit and cheaper

Re: Sky Glass 2.0 Launch Details

There are Full array backlighting QLEDS where the LEDs are behind the screen and not edgelit and the TV's image processor turns the LEDs down or off for dark scenes and in differant area's of the screen etc. How well it works depends on the Image processor and the amount of LED dimming ones. A old Panasonic LED TV i had, had 512 local dimming zones which is huge while most Samsung QLEDS rarely go above 250.

I don't think any mainstream televisions sets are now edge-lit: that's an antique LCD panel technology which originally used mercury discharge tubes that haven't been legal to import for a considerable time.

Re: Sky Glass 2.0 Launch Details

Mini LED can have over 1000 dimming zones in fact many more modern TVs have 2500+ dimming zones which is why they tend to produce better blacks but stil cannot compete with OLEDs as wut that technology each indiivdual LED can be turned on or off. The fewer the dimming zones the more washed out the blacks will look and more blooming you will see. Sky are one of the rare manufacturers that do not specifiy how many dimming zones they have which makes me think it is a low number although higher then that of gen 1

FYI no imagng processor can do much to hep with few dimming zones, it can help but there is little it can do about blooming and washed out blacks

Re: Sky Glass 2.0 Launch Details

There are loads of edge lit TV's still available to buy. Mostly cheap TV's example would be "LG 75UT91006LA its a cheap £800 edge lit 75inch TV
