Sky Gen

I had Sky glass a couple of years ago, and had it removed because it did not record.  I have just seen the new Sky glass Gen advertisement and was very disappointed to see that a chip had not been added so you could record programs, This is the only reason we don’t have Sky glass! I have spoken with thousands of ppl regarding this on my social media and 90% have said the same thing, maybe the technical team could look into this, it would be a definite yes for us and many others to get Sky glass, surely this would be good for your company too, especially as 90% of my followers would say yes too.

You may find in 5 years that the ability to record tv will be gone. Freeview is making its way online and the bandwidth the transmitters use is earmarked for the mobile phone companies. It's likely that the satellites used for tv transmission won't be renewed after 2029.

It's not going,to happen, I'm afraid. Sky Glass is a streaming platform. For the ability to record, you need Sky Q.

Re: Sky Gen

I know but nowadays you would think with the advance in technology, the could put a chip in it to make it able to record, for me it would be a definite improvement and selling point.

Unfortunately that just won't happen. The broadcasters and production companies who make and own all the content don't really want people to be able to take local recordings, they want people to have to subscribe to streaming services of to purchase DVDs/blu-rays so they continue to make money from their content. Now the streaming genie has come out of the lamp it won't get put back in.

Re: Sky Gen

Is it because they can't do it or because they won't?

@Athena4 Whilst I agree that to be able to record whenever you want would be nice I believe you have summed it up in your post.  With the advances in technology there is no longer a perceived need to record programmes.

As @MarkGoldsmith has stated the rights holders do not actually want you to be able to record.
