New extra vivid mode

I have turned on my sky glass today and found a new extra vivid mode. Any idea as what is different to the existing vivid mode? .

I'd imagine it means they've coaxed some additional brightness out of the backlight.

It's a lot brighter and the reds seem a lot redder. I've found I get different results on different apps.

Re: New extra vivid mode

Glass user for a few years now. I have made the best game settings capable for this TV to run and comparing those custom ones to extra vivid I have to say extra vivid makes the image WAY sharper than custom can but I'm not sure if this is because of the brightness due to the extra energy usage or if extra vivid surpasses that sharpness meter we get on custom. The biggest downside is that you NEED to use HDR for this to actually look somewhat decent on your games because the image becomes so sharp and bright that I swear I can count the pixels. There's not a lot of ways to optimise this new mode for gaming to make it look the best it can be because the game can either be too sharp or too bright. A better way to use this extra backlight is by adding this option to custom settings and give the user an option to somehow at least adjust the extra brightness/backlight. I'm not an expert here but I've been playing games for way too long to know that they shouldn't be looking like this on a ps5. I'll do more testing with the HDR to know for sure if this is the best way to play games on but unless we get a new update that fixes these issues I wouldn't hold out hope.

Re: New extra vivid mode

Watched the Ten Commandments on c4 in extra vivid. Wow! Other movies using the same colour process is fantastic. Football uhd is much improved in extra vivid. I flit between vivid and extra vivid. Some of the game shows with strong colour backgrounds extra vivid is not recommended.

Re: New extra vivid mode

It means we have much superior picture quality compared to just vivid which was wishy washy at best

Re: New extra vivid mode

I have a sky glass air 55". You are best to use Auto or movie setting for the best UHD movies, games and channels. If you use Vivid or Extra Vidid for UHD you will not get the best results, it will over bright and over saturate the entire expereince, and you will lose detail.

A more subtle tone is best for games and UHD, (Auto, Movie or Game setting) and still  has that quality detail 🙂

Re: New extra vivid mode

I tend to use Auti for most channels, very rare i feel the need to use vivid or extra vivid, unless for aome reason the show is quite dark setting anyway?

When you wlak into TV showrooms, they most definitely have every TV aetting on Vivid or Extra Vivid to attract the beat sales. And will not me tion rhis would affect the viewing quality on HD/UHD or gaming.
