NOW tv

Spoiler
Hello i am leaving sky tv next month and keeping sky broadband. I have two sky glass tv's and when my subscription ends i want to log into my NOW tv to watch TNT through amazon/discovery plus and watch sky sports through NOW tv.

1. Can i log into them through the APPs on sky glass (with no subscription) of do i need an amazon firestick?
2. When my subscription ends do i have to set up the APPs on the sky glass for iplayer, channel 4 etc or will they automatically come on like a smart tv?
3. Will SKY send me 2 new remotes to use the SKY glass tv's with subscription?

Thanks Gemma

Re: NOW tv

Hi @gemgem237,

1. No you will need a firestick as with no active Sky subscription you can only use HDMI.

2. Again the apps won't work so you will have to use a 3rd party device like a Roku, Apple TV, Firestick etc.

3. The remote is the same whether you have a subscription or not, if you don't have a subscription with sky, they won't replace the remote.

2. Apps WILL work providing you keep your sky account active and only cancel your subscription. And whatever you do do not factory reset the tvs .... ever

3. yes you will get 2 new remotes with different layouts sent to you - can take up to approximately 8 weeks to get to you -  pic of remote below

Re: NOW tv

The glass basically becomes a dumb monitor either go down the Freeview route no smart or go 'smart' no freeview but with access to the apps only Sky allow. Smarter than a smart TV hmmmm!!!!

If you're going for Now the app on Apple TV is very good plenty of funtionality as Now uses Apple's in house App for Apple TV, the picture quality is also exceptional plus of course boost so totally AD free none of the FF skip nonsense.

So an initial cost outlay but worth it for all the apps and excellent up next plus TV launcher.

@ThePope27 that's not correct. Apps will work.

@gemgem237 however you will not be able to get access to the NowTV app without a 3rd party device. You will also loose access to TV guide. You can watch some freeview channels by turning off the internet connection and using an aerial.

See: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-glass-without-a-subscription

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/tv-input-app-on-sky-glass

And Sky will send you a new non voice input remote. As per @Jporch316 comment.

@mikealanr

They don't work great though in the first place, best to get a 3rd party media streaming device,

@Jporch316

As the OP said he wants the now tv app, he's best just to get an Apple TV and be done with it, all his apps on 1 device rather than switching between the 2

I'm not sure spending £200 on Apple TV to just watch now tv is the answer. Get a Roku stick or firestick for a fraction of the price.

and hey .... if you already own 2 glass tvs you may as well use them.

Yup apps work fine on my Glass TV and my 4 pucks @Jporch316. While I tend to agree with you@ThePope27 that having a another device would be more convenient for the OP, please try to ensure advice is factually correct. Apps will continue to work and the remote will be repalced.

Re: NOW tv

@mikealanr

To be honest I've never seen that other remote before with the Netflix buttons, and I didn't think the apps worked after sub cancel, I checked online and it turns out that the apps on a stream box stop working, but the glass apps continue to work.

Re: NOW tv

@Jporch316

Thats like buying a Rolls Royce and getting it serviced at a Vauxhall garage, if you've spent 1k+ on a tv you may as well get something like an Apple TV if it's going to be your daily viewing device, Firesticks are filled with advertisements and limited to 100mbps over Ethernet, not sure about Roku as I have never personally used them

EDIT: We have spoken about firesticks Apple tvs Roku's etc, How about the OP just get a now smart box

I understand your point ..... but if you are going to spend a load of cash just to be able to watch now tv you may as well carry on with your sky subscription

Apparently @ThePope27 that isn't quite accurate. There have been a few customers on this forum who got a stream puck before they were loaned so they own them and they have confirmed that the apps have continue working providing you still have a Sky account (even with an inactive subscription).

However it's practically an irrelevant thing for the stream puck seeing how few customers actually own them anyway.
