Hi thinking of ditching my tv subscription- only basic package and don't use it - only watching streaming stuff and normal 'free' tv.
keeping broadband so will still have a sky account.
my question is if it sign up for premium Netflix and Disney with Dolby and UHD do I still need to pay the £6 a month Sky charge me for this? In fact the f I cancel tv subs can I still pay au for Dolby Atmos. Or can Netflix etc unlock it on my glass tv?

Hi @Croppermj
No Sky will not allow you to subscribe to UHD pack if you don't have the ultimate TV pack. See: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-glass-without-a-subscription
However as the apps still work if you pay netflix and Disney directly (and get UHD as part of the sub) you will still get UHD via these apps.
Note that you won't get any live TV via glass and the EPG (program guide disappears), and will only have access to apps. You can disconnect your TV from the internet to get DTT (Freeview) if you connect an aerial. However you have to switch it on and off to go between apps and Freeview which isn't ideal. You can always use a Freeview or Freesat box plugged in via HDMI.
Hope this helps

Re: Leaving Sky TV keeping broadband have glass tv
Thanks Mike, my issue is that I pay for Sky ultimate and don't watch any of their channels - just free channels and streaming via Netflix/Disney+ so I feel like I'm paying nearly £40 just for a display/menu to watch free channels!
I live in an area where an aerial won't work - very poor signal so maybe something I can plug into the hdmi for free channels - presume just switch between source ...

Re: Leaving Sky TV keeping broadband have glass tv
Hi @Croppermj
If you still have you dish, Freesat could be an option, or freely should launch at some point in the near future. This is the IPTV delivered version of Freeview, however they have only announced TVs and not set top boxes at this stage. See: https://www.everyonetv.co.uk/news-freely-brand-identity-smart-tv-partner-hisense
Yes you select the HDMI port in the same way as now. Basically without a subscription you see an advert for resubscribing and the apps and inputs rail. You can watch live channels from within each app if they offer them, i.e go into iPlayer for BBC live channels, ITVX for ITV channels etc.

Re: Leaving Sky TV keeping broadband have glass tv
One thing to note, I have a freesat box as I live in an area like you, Netflix and disney are on they and as said it is connected to a satellite dish , but depending on how many screens you watch Netflix on it will probably be more expensive than with your sky subscription

Re: Leaving Sky TV keeping broadband have glass tv
H Peter thanks for your input.
its not necessarily a money saving exercise - it's ts about swapping - Sky entertainment for Prime/Netflix/Disney - all premium levels - works out similar price - maybe a little bit more BUT I will have content I will watch, unlike my Sky tv sub
