Re: Great! TV channels

So you can get sky sports and bt sport with bt sport ultimate for a total of £24,00 on virgin stream with no need to take a base pack, that's less the cost of sky sports or bt sports alone on sky stream. Virgin looking extremely competitive if you just want sport.

sky stream - mandatory ultimate pack £26,00

Sky sports £25

BT Sports £28

Total of £79 a month with a 18 month contract

virgin stream

Bt sport £8

sky sports £16

totak of £24 a month - prices for 18 months but no contract

that's a difference of £55 a month or £660 a year.

LG C2 OLED 55inch
Sonos Playbar
Virgin 1 Gig
Virgin Stream Box

Apple TV 4K

@Jason+Golding

Crucial difference would be Sky Stream is available everywhere with sufficient bandwidth while Virgin infrastructure reaches less than half the country.

Re: Great! TV channels

@TimmyBGood @Virgin media actually covers around 60 percent of the UK.  I would imagine that at least 10 percent of the Uk don't receive the required speed for Sky stream. So the difference isnt as big as you are making out - plus it's irrelevant if you do live in a virgin media area

But very relevant if you don't.  It doesn't really matter to me how much Virgin can undercut Sky when they have no infrastructure closer than twenty miles to this town.

Re: Great! TV channels

@TimmyBGood @But the prices do matter to the 60 percent of people who can. Secondly there are hundreds of thousands of homes that can get high enough speeds via open reach - I guess the fact they can't get sky stream matters to them too.

Clearly not enough for either Sky or Virgin to change their current business models...

@Jporch316  The simple rule with VM is that for the vast majority of customers they receive a trouble free service, fast broadband and reliable tv. However, if you do have to contact their customer service, it's a nightmare. I have only had to speak to them a couple of times in two years.

price rises - they have changed their policy to replicate the formula used by BT and the majority of others. - RPI plus 3.9% - so actually their price increase now is more transparent than Sky.

Tip from me. - it's worth having an O2 sim. The volt benefits are really good - you get a free speed bump on the broadband plus you get the virgin Wi-Fi pods (plume) for free. The O2 account can belong to anyone in the household doesn't have to be you. Also worth looking at cash back sites such as Quidco and lastly as a virgin media customers you are entitled to O2 rewards

Maybe that has something to do with Virgin Media and O2 merger @Jason+Golding

@Jason+Golding wrote:

Looks like the pricing of virgin stream has been reduced further * all prices for 18 months.

Sky Sports HD all channels £16

BT Sports all channels and UHD £8

Sky Cinema £8

Entertainment Essentials in HD £8

Kids packs in HD £2.50

So you could as an example get the essential channels (sky max, gold etc) sky sports in HD, BT Sports in UHD, and Sky cinema for £40 a month.

As you say the prices are for the first 18 months so it's only fair to consider the full price which applies after that:

Sky Sports HD: £38.75

BT Sports: £18

Sky Cinema: £14.99

Entertainment Essentials: £8 (no change)

Kids: £2.50 (no change)

So your £40 becomes £80 after 18 months.

Re: Great! TV channels

Off topic here, but out of interest, what's the position re BT Sport interactive content, e.g highlights and replays on demand on Virgin Stream?

Re: Great! TV channels

@best+of+the+best how is suggesting that I work for virgin media constructive ? If you had bothered to read my post earlier in the thread. You would have seen that I gave a balanced opinion of both Sky and Virgin stream, which actually said if money is no object - that sky stream is the better option. Unfortunately we are in a financial crisis where people are using food banks, so I felt posting an alternative with cheaper pricing may help some - for me that's constructive - insulting another customer and suggesting that they work for virgin media isn't. The standards that are set to be a super user on this forum, seem to be based on how much you have posted to be levelled up. I have noticed that you in particular are spikey to other posters on a regular basis and make people feel uncomfortable. Regards
