Glass vs App

I have assumed (wrongly) that our internet connection was poor as when watching live TV  on Sky Glass it's glitching and sound drops out picture freezes etc.

This happened tonight whilst watching the football on ITV - entirely unwatchable. On a whim, switched to ITVX app and it was perfect watching for the other 75 minutes. What am I missing here? Why would this be different when both options are streaming from the internet?

The streams come from different servers. Sky's servers are clearly busy & unable to cope with the demand. ITVX's servers are less stressed & require less bandwidth.

Ah I see. Thank you for your response. Clearly my complaint against my broadband provider was misplaced. Thank you.
