Glass 2 Atmos

I received my 65 in Glass 2 yesterday. Coming from a 55 inch LG OLED I wasn't expecting the picture to be anywhere close to the LG and I was correct. My biggest disappointment is the Dolby Atmos, it's basically nonexistent. It sounds more like stereo, there is zero surround at all. I'm connecting my Sony soundbar up to the tv tonight just to check the TV is actually outputting in Atmos but I was hoping to have a cleaner area around the TV with less wires round the back. And yes, I do have the Atmos and UHD add-on.

Are you playing content which is encoded with Dolby Atmos? Not everything is.

Sky Glass can only ever give a pseudo-Atmos 'effect', don't expect room enveloping sound from such a device. For a truly immersive Atmos experience you need separate speakers behind and above you, connected to a decent Atmos decoding amplifier.

Sky Glass, like many soundbars, may have Dolby Atmos decoding capability, but it doesn't automatically mean it will actually sound good. Before I returned my gen2 Glass I thought it sounded OK, but just not good enough to justify the price.

Yep, tested loads of Atmos content. I'm going back to my Sony soundbar at its streets ahead of the built in soundbar/speakers.

Yeah, I was distinctly underwhelmed by it too. It's fine for providing pretty decent sound for the average TV viewer, but once you realise how much better some soundbars are, it's hard to go back.

Agree---very very disapointed on the sound quality---where is this fantastic quality sound that jumps all over the room.  I cannot hear any  real difference with the Cass boost button and dont know if its a software fault but when I go to set up custom sound it only give options for screen brightness etc-Is this a fault from Skys end?

Re: Glass 2 Atmos

@PaulW1970 having gone down the road of purchasing and watching an OLED TV, 4 years, ago, I cannot  go back to a poorer picture on my main TV.

Last year I upgraded my 55" Phillips OLED for a Samsung 65" OLED  (incl free soundbar and sub woofer) and the family really love the picture quality and sound.

Further,   I only paid £978 direct from Samsung (2023 discontinued model.).

It may be worth seeing if you can get an OLED and soundbar for around the same price as the Glass 2 while you are in the free(ish) return window with Sky 🤔

Sky Stream
900/110 FTTP to hub
3 x Asus XT9s for WiFi (AP mode)
65" Samsung S92C OLED TV
C430 Samsung soundbar with subwoofer
6 other streaming TVs
43+ network connected devices

In the imagination of the Marketing Department, I'd think.  A moment spent contemplating the dimensions of the Glass enclosure and the physics involved might be worthwhile: realistically it's intended to be better than a pair of rear-facing stereo speakers.
