Can I use my father in-laws Sky Glass TV,
Hi Sadly my father in law has passed away, I have been with Sky for about 30 years, and wanted to know if i can convert to Sky glass and use my father in laws Sky TV, rather buying a new TV. I would have assumed I could but wanted to understand the process and if there is any different installation required?
Thanks Jason

Re: Can I use my father in-laws Sky Glass TV,
Sorry to hear your news. Yes you can set up a streaming TV account. See guide here: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/buying-sky-glass-second-hand
However you cannot have Sky Q and a streaming account together. If you want you use Q with the glass see this guide: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/connect-q-to-glass
Also note the difference in channel lineup and Glass doesn't record in the same way (some items cloud record and some just point you to apps). https://www.sky.com/help/articles/tv-channel-list-sky-glass
Also glass delivers channels via internet not satellite. You need to ensure you have fast and stable broadband. Glass required 25Mbps for HD and 30Mbps for UHD.

Re: Can I use my father in-laws Sky Glass TV,
@JasL Firstly sorry to hear of your father in laws passing.I think the only way you will get a definite answer to this is by phoning through to sky customer service team,It's a complete guess on my part but I think a lot may depend on if the tv has an outstanding balance ie if it was purchased through the sky credit agreement or purchased outright again this is a complete guess on my part,as this is mainly a customer to customer forum you really would be best contacting the customer service team.

Re: Can I use my father in-laws Sky Glass TV,
You could acquire the Glass set as a second hand unit and order a content subscription on it, but as identified above, given Glass was launched three years ago any such unit originally purchased on a four year finance term still has many repayments due unless the balance has been cleared with a lump sum (although repayment is the responsibility of the original purchaser or their estate rather than any subsequent owner)

Re: Can I use my father in-laws Sky Glass TV,
Hi Yes the TV was purchased outright when the package was purchased, else it would need to be retuned to Sky, presumably. It was really about any technical differences, connections, or installation. Look you i'm simply guessing, but would hope that as its pure WIFI connectivity, it would work subject to having a valid Sky Glass subscription login details.
I suppouse the question is, what do I need to do covert my current satalite Sky Q account into a Sky Glass account?
Thanks for you help. Jason

No: the set is owned from the start. Loan repayments are separate from the hardware itself.

That happens automatically when a content subscription is ordered. You'll need to be very clear that you're not trying to order a Glass set though.

Re: Can I use my father in-laws Sky Glass TV,
Yes sky go works. You will need to return your Q box and mini boxes as they are only loaned to you. You can also get the whole home subscription and Sky stream boxes to replace them (these would also be loaned to you).

With regards to the returns process for the Sky Q equipment, as part of the process to switch over Sky would cancel your Sky Q subscription and start your Sky Glass subscription. This should trigger a process in which Sky should send you return packaging so you can pop your Sky Q boxes into the packaging and send it back to them.
As a bit of advice, its worth keeping holding of the tracking number/receipt when you send the packaging back to Sky. The third party Sky use to handle the return equipment have been known to be a bit shoddy at times and not necessary correctly update the Sky systems to signal the return of equipment ( this is where have the tracking number is useful and it will show the third party company received the package).

If you wanted whole home (equivalent to multi room ) the easiest way would be to convert your current Q subscription to sky stream and get the streaming box then add whole home to your package. Once active you can factory reset the sky glass and add it as an extra device to your account online . Then you would have a sky stream to use anywhere in your property and the sky glass to use as your tv. Both work off wifi and whole home gives you the full sky go experience
