Any chance now of more music channels coming ?

With the news of 5 music channels closing down at the end of the month i wondered if anyone had heard any plans to bring more over such as the NOW channels i used to watch on Sky before i moved over to glass.

I understand im a bit of a dinosaur in the age of spotify and youtube etc but ive always been a fan of the music channels and now with 50% of available channels closing down i wondered if any more were coming.

I wouldn't be surprised if nothing new comes. That's not a knock on Sky, I'm just aware of the decline in popularity of music channels hence these 5 shutting down. Just trying my luck that's all.

Highly unlikely, the reason Channel 4 are closing down their network of music channels is because they are unprofitable.

The closest replacement on TV is the Vevo app, which has a number of live channels showing various music vidoes.

Almost certainly not: anyone under about thirty now cannot believe there are music delivery services over which they have no content control.

Thank you for this. I do miss the Now channels since I switched over. Let's hope the branch out to Glass/stream soon.

If that's how you think then please state that as you opinion there will be plenty of younger people such as myself who enjoy seeing the videos that accompany the tracks and for that we need music channels, especially since it easier to type a channel number in than do all techy stuff to watch them on other platforms through TV.

YouTube is also a good source of music videos and you can create your own playlists which is like building your own music channels. There are also plenty of pre existing playlists as well.

The only downside is the amount of advertising unless you have YouTube premium, but I suspect that is similar to watching the ad funded linear channels which you are missing.

I'm 43 and understand how many younger people prefer the streaming option. However, I've had many a great night over the years surfing the music channels and something completely random coming on that you'd maybe forgotten about. Streaming doesn't quite have the same effect for me sadly. I'll miss them!

That's not Sky's fault. They're not removing anything. It's up to the individual channel suppliers if they want to be on Sky's streaming platform.

The full list of channels available on Sky Stream & Glass is freely available on the Sky website and should be consulted before signing up:

If you don't think you're getting value for money with Sky then there are plenty of other streaming options out there.

The channels in question are not "Sky" channels, there is a incorrect myth that everything on Sky must be Sky.  A rule of thumb to go by, if it's Sky branded, it's owned/part own by Sky, if it isn't then it's owned/run by a company that IS NOT Sky.

Channel 4’s spokesperson told RXTV "We will be closing our Box network of channels from 1st July across all platforms – as they are no longer of sufficient scale to deliver meaningful return on investment. Our strategy reflects the generational shift in TV viewing and involves reducing costs – particularly in linear activities – to allow us to invest in digital priorities and stay competitive in a world of global entertainment conglomerates and social media giants.”

Re: Any chance now of more music channels coming ?

Seems sky can add music channels to its satellite services but not glass or stream , now 90s and 00s are coming to sky satellite,  if not already there , sky glass / stream actually has less content than satellite
