Re: ALLM causing lag spikes/screen jumps every 5 seconds

@Daniel-F

Hi Daniel,

I will try and get a recording for you this evening.

I've continued to check and the only way to avoid this is by switching the TV off completely and then back on whilst in game. Restarting the TV doesn't do anything either.

I'll tag you with the video in my next message.

Re: ALLM causing lag spikes/screen jumps every 5 seconds

Can second this, though I can't do a video, no mobile & can't use my tablet to film, & play at the same time.

Other issues (for me)

TV started having desync of the sound now after a few hours watching

Just got the new sky max router, apparently much better. Well upstairs signal is now 40% strength, was 52% on the old router, & it says upnp isn't available & moderate NAT, it was always available & open nat.

All info says turn it on in router settings, but this routers settings have no options like the other one had, it's super limited.

This all becoming too much hassle

Re: ALLM causing lag spikes/screen jumps every 5 seconds

I have found a fix of sorts. Whether this works for everyone no matter what game console is connected, I am unable to say.

Put console into HDMI 3

Go to settings and Connected Devices

Turn on Older Device Compatibility

Turn on Low Latency Mode - ALLM

Doing this has completely eliminated the problem on my partner's XBOX Series S.

Weirdly, this does not work on HDMI 1 or 2, no matter what settings on turned on/off.

I will be interested to hear if this works for others.

Re: ALLM causing lag spikes/screen jumps every 5 seconds

I did. Got told settings where on the app, they're even more limited on the app than the webpage lolol.

On a brighter note I followed someone's advice from an old thread saying if you've 2 Xboxes on the same network you need to open a port for one that's not 3074, so i did that & it's now open, so we'll see how long it lasts.

Re: ALLM causing lag spikes/screen jumps every 5 seconds

Hey there. @Loubear1

Just did a very quick test, wife watching TV & she popped out. Did what you said, hdmi 3, turn on the old device setting, & it worked perfectly!!! I couldn't tell if it affected the picture quality, it looked slightly dull or pale, BUT I have auto brightness adjustment on & don't usually use the Xbox in the evening so it's probably just me seeing things funny, it's quite dark in our front room at night.

Thanks so much, hope more people see this 🙂

BTW something I did notice, we got that latest router today, sky max I think it's called, & destiny 2 started a lot faster than the old router, again not tested properly but it felt much faster loading everything.

Thanks again, game changer, you didn't have to post but you did 👍

Re: ALLM causing lag spikes/screen jumps every 5 seconds

@DShib Thanks to @Loubear this works, albeit limited testing as pushed for time, but it works!

I have found a fix of sorts. Whether this works for everyone no matter what game console is connected, I am unable to say.

Put console into HDMI 3 slot  it's the one nearest to the outside of the tv, go to settings and Connected Devicees, turn on Older Device Compatibility, turrn on Low Latency Mode - ALLM

Glad to help everyone.

It's something that I'm glad to have found. It's been bugging me why all games were doing this on my partners XBOX.

This post got me interested as I was just thinking it was a normal issue of some sort.

Re: ALLM causing lag spikes/screen jumps every 5 seconds

It only started when they added ALLM, & I read it requires a 120hz screen, but glass is only 60hz, & some form of smoothing caused the issue but hey I think we're sorted now 🙂

Re: ALLM causing lag spikes/screen jumps every 5 seconds

@Loubear1 @Nawwti

Thanks for adding to the list of potential workarounds.

I've just tried it and it did get rid of the stutter, however, this is because (at least on my Xbox) ALLM can't be toggled on. So it's the same situation as using the other HDMI ports. And again, this may just be me, but I'm also unable to toggle 4K and HDR on whilst the old device compatibility setting is on. So with being unable to toggle ALLM on, the stutter has gone but we're back to poor input lag.

@Daniel-F

I've done a short video which (I hope) demonstrates the issue. At the end of 2 and 7 seconds in the video, you should be able to spot the stutter as the camera is panning round. It may be hard to tell because of the FPS of the video, but if you analyse it closely, you should spot it.

Re: ALLM causing lag spikes/screen jumps every 5 seconds

Cheers. I hadn't tested properly, just a few mins so I'll get back to you 2moro.. didn't feel desync, but I did think possibly the picture was a little fuller, but again only played a tiny bit & we got a new router today, maybe that helped the desync. Really weird day, never stopped but didnt really do anything 😞

New cod released so I'll do a lot of testing 2moro

Speak soon if I've anything to follow up

Re: ALLM causing lag spikes/screen jumps every 5 seconds

Picture was duller*

I hate not being able to edit posts on here.

Just to add,I had ALLM on the Xbox before I changed ports & though I'm didn't check in my little session on the Xbox I tried all 3 ports, 1 & 2 still had the stutter & 3 didn't  Needs more investigation in my end

Re: ALLM causing lag spikes/screen jumps every 5 seconds

@DShib Watched your video, the skip is near the start right. It's much easier to see on a screen where you can move your cursor/aim in a straight line across the screen. I use destiny 2 & the character select page or character page, move in a straight line across the bottom & the jump is very clear, however as I said before it is hard to spot in video format, it's much worse in person.

Regarding the fix from yesterday, tested this morning & you're right, the hdmi3 trick is basically the same as having ALLM turned off & play on hdmi 1 or 2, BUT with a much worse picture. So you're better playing on hdmi 1 or 2 with it turned off.  It even says in the description turning on the setting for old compatibility affects your picture quality so I wast going mad. @Loubear lol.

Don't know if it's bcoz we got the new router yesterday but the desync with it off is now barely noticeable, but the skip is still there with it on.

I'm convinced it's caused by the fact ALLM needs a 120hz screen & glass is 60hz & whatever it's doing to make that work is causing the issue & if that's correct they can't ever fix it, it's like making a petrol car run on electricity. So for now, it's do the plug on/off workaround or play with it off on hdmi 1 or 2 for best picture quality. Personally if I'm playing destiny I'll leave it off, I still need to test cod with it on/off but I'm willing to do the plug trick if it's noticeable, I played with it off & it felt ok, more testing later I guess 😞
