Why do apostrophes not appear on subtitles

I was watching Cardiff Singer of the World recorded from BBC4 and noticed that, on the subtitles, apostrophes just appear as a space. All letters seem to be OK but did not spot any other pubctuation problems.

Is this a fault (a) on BBC subtitling, or (b) Sky transmission or (c) my TV?

Subtitles are provided by the broadcaster, in this case BBC
