Sky+ app no longer supported from May 2023

Changes from March and removal by May.

We always aim to support the most up-to-date, secure and high-performing technology – the age of the Sky+ app on iOS and Android means that the services used are out of date and cannot be continued or improved in the existing app.

On March 30th, Channel Favourites will no longer be available in the Sky+ app. Your list of Favourites in the app’s TV Guide page will no longer be displayed or work correctly, but you can still use Favourites as normal on your Sky+ box

The Sky+ app will also be removed from app stores, meaning you will be unable to download the Sky+ app onto any new devices.

Customers who continue to use the Sky+ app after May 31st will see a reduction in the features they can use, and content curation will stop.

  • Sky+ box connectivity features will continue to function unofficially, however if customers experience issues we are unable to provide support or fixes. These features include:
  • Send to TV - browse for what to watch and then watch on your main TV via your Sky+ box
  • Remote – directly control your Sky+ box via your mobile device

There will be a link in the top carousel of the app which drives customers to Sky Go, which they can use for free as part of their subscription.

The Sky Go app has many improvements over the Sky+ app:

  • Available on more platforms and devices:
  • All customers can download and use Sky Go on iOS, Android, PC, Mac, Huawei and Amazon Fire
  • Multi-room customers can also download the Sky Go app on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S
  • Watch Live TV channels and On Demand shows based on your subscription
  • Download shows to watch when you don’t have WiFi or mobile data, or when travelling outside the UK&ROI
  • Personalised recommendations, Continue Watching where you left off on your device and much more!

if this app is part of my sky+ package, does it mean i can challenge sky to leave whilst in contract because they have changed my  aggreement ?

@BAGGETTE68

Yes, but only if you can afford better lawyers than them. So no.

@BAGGETTE68

If Sky had a modicum of decency or respect for their customers then we should definitely be allowed to cancel our contracts without penalty, because of this ridiculous decision. But they don't, so no.

I would love to see someone challenge them on this though.

I wonder do sky actually monitor customer comments or is it like some companies complaints section basically a dustbin 🗑 🤔  they don't seem to give a rats beep about anything anyone says

I wanted to download Rabbit Hole from Paramount+ to my Sky+ HD box. Knowing the (excellent) Sky+ HD app was being discontinued, I decided to do so via the Sky Go app.

Unlike the Sky+ HD app, I was not able to find Paramount+ under the Catch Up section. So I tried searching, no results. I tried searching by actor (Kiefer), no results.

Is Paramount+ not available via the Sky Go app? I have it as part of the Sky Cinema subscription.

This is a MASSIVE gap if its not available 😞

Hi everyone, we've provided an update on this new article: https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Online-Apps-Email/Sky-app-UPDATE/ba-p/4297974

If you have any further questions and/or concerns, please continue to raise them. I'm not ignoring anything that's been posted here, it's all valuable feedback that I'm pushing further into the business with a group dedicated to ensuring individual needs are met.

@FP1997

I tried the link that you provided, however for me it states:

Sorry, you don't have access to this page

Me too

why is all such an effort to get what we pay so much for?

There's an extra "," at the end of the link. Either manually delete it from the invalid page or try...

@Jon+H.

Thank you, that link you provided worked 👍

I dont know if sky staff are still reading these comments but I would just like to say when sky say about using the sky go app thats not possible on jailbroken devices so if your jailbroken using the sky go app isnt possible

Oh dearie me Sky. Why remove such a useful app and have no replacement lined up?

Sky Go is not a replacement as I can't use it to record programmes when I'm away from home. And as I only have a smartphone Sky Go is not an option to watch programmes when I'm away from home because usually I'm travelling & want to record a particular programme for watching later.

Please rethink this awful decision.

This is appalling.  What business directs you to a new app with less functionality. I use the sky+ app on my phone as a remote. Will be cancelling sky if this is the best they can come up with.

You will see from my posts I'm not happy about this, but some are posting that you can't use SkyGo to regard remotely which isn't correct.

You can but it's loosing the favourites which makes it such an inconvenience.

BBC1 HD for instance is channel 801, so there's a lot of scrolling each time!

Very disappointing. I pay a lot for your services and this feels contemptuous. Being able to record to my box when I'm not at home is so useful and you are removing that functionality for no good reason. I'm going to start shopping around for a provider that doesn't do this to very long-standing customers.

@AndyF10 sorry mate but you can record remotely with SkyGo. That is not the issue of concern.

Would recommend reading the past threads. I'm abroad at the moment and have used SkyGo to record.

Thanks Andy. I realised that afterwards but couldn't work out how to delete it edit my message. Too early in the morning for technology! 😀

  • This is another way to make more money by Sky to force us onto SkyQ from Sky+ which is more expensive and profitable for Sky. Did someone say customer is king? Not with Sky!

The proof will be if they make any changes to SkyGo that mimic those lost on Sky+.

If they don't then I will cancel after more than 25 year's subscription.

@Andy+Legg

Yes, it's possible to schedule recordings remotely but what's NOT possible is cancelling them! This is especially annoying when, because we HAVE NO FAVOURITES any more, you set a program to record on an SD channel by mistake, as I did last week. It's then impossible to rectify this without recording both and – again, as happened to me – causing an unresolvable clash with a third scheduled recording.

JUST GIVE US OUR FAVOURITES BACK! Why is that so hard?
