Re: Verify email account scam?

This seems like a bizarre email to send - I seriously suggest sky think about better ways to do this in future

an email from annoyed looking email address really doesn't help

Re: Verify email account scam?

My elderly mother received this and I thought it was a scam and she knows never to click on links in emails she is unsure about. So we have ignored it.

Without knowing what the email your mother was sent she has done the right thing by not clicking on any link in it.

If the email was from Sky as per the other posts here If she has an online account @jmew all it is actually asking (but really badly worded) is to make sure her email address is up to date on her Sky account.

Re: Verify email account scam?

Are Sky actively looking into this email as other people have stated, there's nothing to verify and people are receive repeat emails?!

Re: Verify email account scam?

Thank you for that really good to know it's genuine

Re: Verify email account scam?

I looked very closely at the senders address before clicking the link and was satisfied it was genuine, so I signed into my account and there were no further instructions???

However I have now received exactly the same email this morning?? SO what is the deal here, is signing in to the account not sufficient?

I asked Sky's virtual assistant (may as well have asked my Labrador) for help but got nothing.

I can't open the email so presumed it was a scam

Re: Verify email account scam?

I had no problem opening it and the link took me to the sign in page for SKY....

Re: Verify email account scam?

I don't think this thread should be marked as answered. The email is being sent daily!! I have logged into both accounts, 2FA is on both, there is no action required on either account!! There is nowhere to verify the email address as up to date! This thread says it's a scam, it's not a scam and has no idea what is going on. The daily emails are anxiety inducing and they need to stop. Please mark this as unanswered until there is a proper solution and/or explanation.

@DebLovesDisney the post marked as the Answer describes correctly what Sky's (poorly worded) email wants you to check and update. It's not related to 2FA.

Re: Verify email account scam?

Thank you for responding but as I said, there is nothing to click on to confirm the existing details are correct! My account name is correct, the email addresses are correct. So in the meantime the emails keep on coming and causing stress.

@DebLovesDisney as I posted - the email is badly worded, and gives you no obvious clue what Sky want you to do.

In fact, all you need to do is click on the link in the Answer (or go to sky.com and then your My Details) and make, sure the email address is a) up to date and b) not an '@sky.com' address.

Did this answer not help you?

Do not treat this as proof of anything. While it's less common now since some modernisation of security standards, internet email was originally created with the only evidence required of who you were as a sender being you told the system your "From" email address. The engineers who invented it were far too trusting/naive.

The Answer post doesn't say that though, just that it needs to be correct. I've changed this post to be the answer.
