Two Step Verification

Sky / Yahoo appear to have enforced their two step verification to everyone,  whether or not the customer requested it.  Which is annoying.  I looked up a recent solution on this discussion group to disable,  but it was clearly out of date and did not work.

If possible, could someone please post a simple to follow process, in order to turn off two step verification.   It needs to be up to date, as older solutions no longer work.   Fortunately I was sent my new 'recover code' this morning.  Which is probably part of the solution.  My 'recovery code' appears to have been updated, too.   Which is rather odd.

Many thanks for your help.

If you sign in with your recovery code then it should then disable it but I have no idea if you will be asked to set it up again the next time you login so if you do you do need to make a note of the recovery code you will be shown on screen.

Re: Two Step Verification

I've been asked for two-step verification this morning which I wasn't expecting. I'm signed up to it, but it hadn't been thirty days since I last did it (on one specific device).

I then received an email confirming it was me that had done it (it was) which I've not received before.

I've spoken with Sky and they confirmed all is well - no change to details etc. - but something has changed as using the link to Sky Mail I've been using for ages it now always asks me to go through the whole process from username rather than just asking for password.

Anybody else had this for the first time today?

Re: Two Step Verification

Sorry, have now seen a few other threads about this so assume - even though my 2step verification was already active - that the change has also impacted me.

Does anybody know whether the 'remember for thirty days' function will still work, as if I need a code every time I log into email that'll be a nuisance!

thanks in advance for any help...

@NicholasLBH

Nothing seems to have changed with how to turn off 2FA, you either use your recovery code when signing in, or you follow thr instructions here: Two-step verification for Sky Yahoo Mail | Sky Help | Sky.com | Sky Help | Sky.com

If it says it should remember you for 30 days it should do unless you have any settings that delete your cookies on exiting your browser as you would then need to sign in again if this is how it is setup via your browser.

Re: Two Step Verification

Hopefully that's good news, many thanks. The 'remember for thirty days' has always worked before and I've not changed any settings at my end, so fingers crossed!

@Ted845 I'm guessing you would have to be sure not to log out when you've finished, in order for the 30 days to work.

Re: Two Step Verification

Hello Jayach

Thank you for your reply.

Your solution does not work.   I mentioned I had already used the Communuty solution and it does not work.   I need an up to date solution, please.

Your instructions to  'sign in to your online account manager'.    Is this the same as signing into my email address?

 Either way, if I input my user name, it now requires a password.     I can either use my current password, or my 'recovery' password.     The system accepts either password.  It then sends me me a 6 digit code.   Which I input and all is well.

Please note, there is no option  to turn off or change number.    All I want to do, is to turn off the two step verification, completely.    Does anyone have an idea how this can be achieved.      And please don't send me a solution that doesn't work.

Thank you all for your help.

That is just a screenshot showing where the "turn off two-step verification permanently or add a new phone number if required" instructions are, as the link always opens on the "how to setup".

This is a copy of the actual link on that page.  sign in to your online account manager

However it appears Sky have made changes to make 2FA manditory (it hasn't happened to me yet) so if it has happened to you it may no longer be possible to turn off.

@jayach it appears you can still turn off 2 step login (or change mobile number) via the account manager link. But as soon as you subsequently try to log in again to Sky Yahoo Mail,  you're automatically re-enrolled. There's no opt out opportunity.

@Mark39

Yes, my accounts are now requiring it, what a pain.😠

@jayach I've kind of got used to it. I'm curious - did you get a page asking for your mobile number and giving you a Recovery Code? When I'm forced to re-enrol, it just uses the number I had set up before. There's no opportunity to provide a different number.

@Mark39

On the account that has never used 2FA it brought up a number that I haven't used in 17 years, but it gave me the option to change it.

On the account that has used 2FA previously, it used the number I had previously given.

I really couldn't find where the numbers were stored in the my details section, despite them saying you could update it there.

I've not tried my other 2 accounts yet!

Edit: The remember me for 30 days doesn't seem to work, as mentioned by another poster.
