@BobJ2 there's no point contacting Yahoo. They have a different 2FA system and can't help with Sky Yahoo Mail.

Sky 2 step verification is now mandatory,  I'm afraid.

Re: Two Step Verification

OK I am not advocating trying to directly make one’s point up the Senior management  team. However if you did you find that the internet can be used  efficiently. Most people do not think that ever key stroke you put on the internet including social media platforms can be found. Customers can get lost in the noise of representatives’ confusion to their lack of knowledge and hence sadly uninformed ignorance of trying to help. Organisations that do not respect the customers who pay the salaries through platform subscriptions soon falter and collapse. Customer service at SKY is basically a fob off with a bot or algorithm. Basically go away and don’t ask for a human that costs money in salaries. Organisations that provide have profit motivation and corporate reward incentives. The only way to grab attention, they say, is to appeal to the top and forego the “system”. Whether one wants to bother, or, complain to a tech company “newspaper” / info service is a different route of using journalists to ask the question.

However, for those angry and hellbent although I am  neither suggesting nor recommending such a view.

 One can do a google search for contact detailsof CEO etc. I can't post the answers as this SKY platform  will not let me post any email address or telephone number despite such inforamtion being easily obtained by using a search string such as CEO SKY or CFO SKY (the Chief Finance Officer never gets comapling e-mails and old advice in t he past was to divert from the official hierarchy system and deviate to someone else who is less complaint-jaded and may respond. Worked for me in a dispute with Virgin cars in the past when that entity existed)

Re: Two Step Verification

I'm getting this too. My issue is that I live in the USA now and have done for eight years, but have had my Sky email address for over 20 years. Now I can't log in to it as I don't have access to a UK phone number. Can still access it via my phone, but this isn't always convenient if I'm working or using specific sites on my laptop - for example I was using Reddit today to search for basement finishers in the city i live in, and my password had been lost in my manager, so I had to Password Reset and it was then that I discovered the TSA page when logging in to Sky/Yahoo.

So now I can't access my email on my laptop, nor can I sign up for TSV even to opt back out of it, as I can't receive the initial code they'd send me.

Incredibly annoying and frustrating to possibly lose an email address that I've been using for so long and is the login email for every website ive used during that time, so any pointers would be very much appreciated.

Cheers,

Jamie...

@RedDread two step login is now mandatory,  I'm afraid. We're waiting on Sky to explain how those without a mobile, or a mobile with a non-UK number should proceed

Re: Two Step Verification

I have mentioned this before - bypassing SKY direct log in.

I have eM Client with the SKY and gmail accounts on it. I used it when Thunderbird lost Mozilla support and SKY email migrated to Yahoo which caused confusion with SKY shield - which had to be disabled. Anyhow as far as I can see eM Client works without 2 stage so one may be able to circumvent direct SKY log in as eM Client simply picks it up. I can't confirm it will work but seems to.

@piepowder

All clients/apps will work without 2FA, the problem is (now) adding the account as if it uses OAuth (modern authentication) that will need 2FA.

However using a generated password does not seem to use 2FA.

Re: Two Step Verification

  • Thank you Mark39.    I very much look forward to hearing back from Sky at some point, as to how customers without a mobile phone should now proceed.  Not to mention our friend in the USA who has a non UK mobile phone and therefore can't log on.  Really don't understand how badly / insensitive this security issue has been dealt with.  Sky / Yahoo. email, in my opinion, is generally very good and reliable, but the bosses need to sort this issue out ASAP.

Re: Two Step Verification

@jayach

fair point - I started using eM Client some time back as I said - when Mozilla stopped support for Thunderbird as a email client. Also SKY shield in the day interferred with Firefox - so again eM Client as back up.  I was lucky I suppose that I had added SKY and Gmail a/c before SKY made 2F compulsory. so a em Client newbie may, as you say, be no better off.

It is interesting that when the UK government clamped down on age restriction on the internet - within hours this was circumvented by using VPN such as proton VPN (free).

It is interesting that in the past when SKY community people posted some SKY staff members would respond at some point - but stunning silence on this topic.

Personally I would drop SKY email now except that to a) decide which new e-mail is best / safe is tricky looking at reviews etc and b) informing everyone of new e-mail would be a real pain. I do have proton email but the free period has lapsed. Also it is stand alone and could not be loaded onto the eM Client platform.

cheers

Re: Two Step Verification

SKY enforcement rule in  place.

The previous link allowed you to turn off two step verificaton https://www.sky.com/help/sky-yahoo-mail/two-step-verif/articles/two-step-verification

Now it is solely to change phone number but for USA members the rub - "All you need is a valid UK or ROI mobile number. "

You annot switch of stage at all anymore as the link above has been changed

But

using the AI bot - it states there is a route still to switch off - (allegedly) viz. SKY modify  https://accounts.sky.com/modify/mfa/methods?proposition=SKYEMAIL&provider=SKY&territory=GB&platform=...

we'll see whathappens but I guess that this is an  old link not yet updated by our masters

@piepowder

As of yesterday if you now sign in with the recovery code you should now be able to turn off 2FA as this is an option once again.

Re: Two Step Verification

Hi Piepowder

I have just tried your route, to switch off Two Step Verification and I'm pleased to report IT WORKED !

It looks like our collective comments over the last few days have finally made a difference.

I did not need to use my recovery code on this occasion, but I was still sent the six digit verification on my phone.   So not sure how customers ,  who don't have a UK phone number will finally sort out.

Many thanks.

@piepowder @NicholasLBH for the moment, two step verification is optional again. Presumably that's to give Sky time to work out the process for those with no mobile or with a non-UK mobile number.

Re: Two Step Verification

maybe SKY have seen the error of their decision - corporate coercion. Except for the hassle of having to inform contacts / change password memory in Firefox, I would still consider alternative e-mail service. Interestingly IIRC in the past one could have more than one SKY email address / name - something they quietly dropped. Hence SKY have form for change without informing their customers who a) pay the salaries of the SKY staff through subscription and b) are treated not as adults, but as children
