Translation of Emails

I occasionally need to send the odd email in French, but when I send, or forward an email in French it automatically gets translated to English.  No good at all if the recipient is actually French!

How do I switch off this feature?!

Where's the translation taking place? Before you send it, or when the recipient receives it?

If I forward an email in French, it turns to English...you can see the original email below, which has been converted to English. 

When I wrote an email in French the other day, the recipient received an English translation...no good to him as he was French!

I really don't want my emails tampering with at all.

Are you using an app or your browser? I can send an email in French from Sky Yahoo Mail via my browser and it arrives untampered in my Gmail Inbox, and vice versa. I think it must be a local setting of some sort?

Its from my browser (Chrome)...perhaps its a setting in my Google account?

Could be - or a Chrome setting? Just a further thought: are you switching keyboard language when you write an email in French? I don't know if that would prompt an translation on sending. When I tried it, I didn't.

Have you tried this as it could be turned on by default (mine is):

1. At the top right, click More Settings.
2. At the left, click Languages.
3. Under 'Google Translate', turn Use Google Translate on or off.

I have the same problem, I am using Sky mail and right click to use "Translate to English" and now when I try to send a message in Spanish ,it automatically translates to English, how can you turn off "Translate"

If it`s Sky mail right click on original email , there should be a drop down box with "translate to English" if its not bold press refresh that cancels the "translate" you can then reply in the language you want

@P30JMP  Chrome should allow you to turn off translation of French text on pages that display it.  

You should see something like this in the address bar when typing in french or viewing a webpage/email in chrome, untick the automatic translation
