Stand alone Yahoo email account

Hi, my son has had a hacking issue yesterday , he was alerted by an email re activity on one of his gaming sites. He dealt with PW promptly and thought he'd secured things. Later on in the evening he could no longer log in email account. As we have No longer have an account with SKY they pin pointed us to contact Yahoo direct, been going round in circles re Yahoo and everything I try I end up back with a message saying call Sky. I've already been onto Sky who washed their hands as no services with them. Anyone any solutions?

Is his email acount a Yahoo.com one or a Sky.com one as it isn't clear from your post what he has ?

 

If it is a Sky one what is happening when he tries to login here:

@Nancy+Loftus there's no point contacting Yahoo,  I'm afraid, they can't help with a Sky Yahoo Mail account. What did your son do to secure his email account when he was first aware of the unauthorised access? And what happens now when he tries to log in online here: https://www.sky.com/signin/email

 

What error message does he see?

It's an original Sky account before they moved over. Sky.com

hi it's an original Sky email account pre Yahoo.

Dual verification already being used but after that we get a message titled " Account problem" We apologise for the inconvenience, but we have encountered a problem with your account. please contact  this telephone number ( number given but can't post on here) for further assistance.

 

which I've done but end up going round in circles. 
Last person told me to try and set up a new PW , I followed the steps but error notice, he said that this could be related to todays IT issues ....try later. 
Which I shall, but I'm a pessimist , not convinced.
