Scam involving Sky email.

I have received emails asking me to update my email account. This looks suspicious, has anyone else received these email requests?

Re: Scam involving Sky email.

Plenty of people get these and you are right in that they are not from Sky so mark them as spam so they get deleted and keep doing this should you be sent more.

Re: Scam involving Sky email.

A quick look through this forum will find you loads of people who have had similar emails.

They're a scam.

Mark them as spam and take no further action.

  1. I have just received an email from  someone called j.nyanetsky. at a sky.com email address. telling me to update my account. I know its a scam but i normally check the incoming email address on all suspect emails and this has the sky address above. Does this mean that i cant trust this in future? If so how do i identify whether its a scam or not?

Check the address at the top of the email, if it looks suspicious it is!
I know what you mean, but actually Sky email is a very poor service, seems to fail daily or more frequently and I am thinking of ditching it. Do you have similar problems?

@garykibb

There are a few ways to recognise if these are spam or not.

Firstly Sky would not email you asking to update your email accounts as any updates will done in the background by Yahoo/Sky.

Secondly how does the email address you because if it was from Sky then they would usually use your first name will spammers tend to say Dear User as they do not know who you are.

Mark these emails as spam and keep doing this for anymore you are sent.

I haven't seen any problems with Sky Yahoo Mail for many months, either via tablet or PC., via an app or a browser. Are you using an app? which one?

That will be the email address of a sky user who did reply to a scam email.

The scammers will be able to use their email address to bypass the spam filters, until the system catches up.

An "official" Sky email will be from a much more obvious email address, and as @caesarome  says, there are many other ways to spot a scam email.

Thanks but I don't know of any of the "lots of other ways" , I checked with 2 friends and they both would have said it was genuine based on the sky email address. Can you suggest a simple "sure" way of verifying it's not spam please?

Re: Scam involving Sky email.

Hi there

yes I totally agree, I have had loads of problems with sky email and particularly with their subcontractor Yahoo. I'm too planning to ditch Sky as soon as I can find someone locally to help me. I'm 84 and the brain doesn't work as well these days as it should.

Definitely don't rely solely on the sending email address. See @caesarome's post for some pointers. Also look for spelling mistakes and poor grammar. And also the way the email is worded. We've seen such content as "this is your final chance...." and other attempts to urge or bully you into taking action. Consider whether a company the size of Sky would address you in that way. Finally - ask for an opinion here, as you've done!

Re: Scam involving Sky email.

Within the last 4 weeks I have phoned Sky many times as all my sent emails prior to April have disappeared from my mailbox. and have been told that I should phone yahoo. I phoned yahoo and was told that I must phone Sky

Regrettably that seems to be Sky's standard response when they don't know how to help. There's no point phoning Yahoo - they definitely can't help.

Are your Sent emails still present if you log in here: https://www.sky.com/signin/email ?
