Re: Possible Hacking - would like to remove app password

Sky wont shut it down; they wont want to lose face over it. And they are a decent company that I dont ever remember making a such a sweeping negative change that would affect so many.

The only email scandal we've had is when talk21 wanted to charge a fiver to keep your email address if you left BT. IIRC that was because Ofcom, or some other branch of government said no-one should ever be forced to change their email address.

Hell, my ntlworld.com email is technically still active even though I left Virgin a  few years ago, and they said they'd shut it down 90 days after disconnection.

This isnt a bullying tactic, it is quite rightfully getting them to realise this is a terrible, intentional, mistake they've made.

Like when they stopped issuing new users with email addresses, that was pretty unpopular?

I doubt there are that many people still using their Sky addresses, the problems getting any help when things go wrong have probably driven them away.

There is a massive difference between not allowing new applicants, and closing a service entirely.

That is exactly why management went over to Yahoo, so Sky didnt have to maintain it, while still keeping it a service for existing customers.

Sky moved to Yahoo (from Google) in 2013, and they stopped issuing new email addresses in about 2018/19, so they were providing them via Yahoo for at least 5 years.

I don't think the two things are in any way related.

Re: Possible Hacking - would like to remove app password

this feature is not present on their site, so when hacked one cant go and revoke previous app passwords.  I spoke with sky and they kept telling me that an app password is to do to with the vendor who owns the 3rd party app - doh.

Absolutely useless they are & in the end they simply hung up on me after me arguing its their responsibility to allow me to securely manage my sky/yahoo email.  Its not Microsofts, or Yahoo's.....

Either way i still cant delete app passwords, all i can do is kick all current devices out and hope they dont try to reconnect.

@ImAnt74 I had an idea of getting this picked up by the tech media, but I tweeted two journos and then gave up.

I was told on the phone (eventually) that the bigwigs knew it was wrong, but made the decision anyway to stop user access to revoke app passwords.

One day when I've got time I'll try again to get this covered by maybe a security journalist or something. Shame its Sky UK as I know there would be US tech media interest if it affected them.
