After constant "nagging" by my { desktop PC } windows 10 mail account to change to New Outlook from Windows Mail , I finally gave in and "transfered " my sky/yahoo e mail account over yesterday. All went remakably well and I was able to both send and recieve emails from the newly set up account. I did many tests to check all was well and as previousley stated I could both send and recieve emails from "outsiders" and also my other accounts {hotmail and gmail}. HOWEVER this morning and despite my notifcations showing e mails have arrived. I can now not collect them via New Outlook . I can also now not send them as well via New Outlook. When I went directly into sky /yahoo I could see and read the the emails which i have recieved and for what ever reason today can not be forwarded via to me via the new Outlook app. When trying to send an E mail via New Outlook it will not send and just sayes " to try again later".
I have tried to check out the server /port settings just in case something has happened BUT can not find how to veiw them in the New Outlook Any help in what might have gone wrong and /or how to find the settings to check server/port settings etc etc would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks for reading !!

Hi Jayach. Well fingers crossed did the trick and everything was working again as it should all day yesterday I am pleased to say !!! Think I now know what the problem was, so for the benifit of anybody that may have a similar problem I will post my thoughts as to why it stopped working.
It would seem that when you "update" via Windows Mail to New Outlook by completeing ALL of the links in the New Outlook set up process that you do not need to use a generated password.
I allready had a Outlook account on my PC for a hotmail account that I have had for many years. This had auomaticly been updated by Microsoft a few months ago to New Outlook so on my desktop I had an New Outlook shortcut icon and one in my default apps as well. After the Mail to New Outlook update I still had on my desktop the Mail shortcut icon {Blue envelope} and this icon was the one that was showing how many e mails had been recieved and not the new Outlook one which is what I would have expected.
Before turning my Pc off for the night I went into my default apps settings to check that it had changed to New Outlook , it was still on Mail so I changed it to New Outlook.{BIG mistake in hindsight !}. After booting up the next day it would not connect to Sky/Yahoo hence all my previous posts, when all the very much appreciated help from Jayach, sugested that it should all work ok. The next day I remembered that I had changed the default app setting from Mail to New outlook so changed it back to Mail and everthing all worked again as it should and has done ever since ! It would seem that all the server and port settingsetc for the Sky/Yahoo conection are "saved" via the Mail App when you update to New Outlook so this is what needs to be set as the default app. I realise however that this may not be the case if you did not move to New Outlook Via Mail as i did.
Hope this informatin may be of some use to others that may have a similar problem.
BIG thank you again to Jayach for all your input and help as well !

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreAre you using an app password rather than your normal Sky password in your New Outlook settings? You may need to do that (I don't know if New Outlook is OAuth2 compliant).
There4's a link to Sky's app password, generator in their help guide here: https://www.sky.com/help/home/sky-yahoo-mail/email-apps/articles/problems-accessing-sky-mail-from-yo...

Hi Mark and many thanks for your responce.
I set the account up with my normal sky password ,I was expecting as i had read up a bit before starting the process, that I may have had to use the passwaord generator. However my normal sky pasword worked first time and allowed me to set the account up. It also worked correctly during my tests as previously stated and also transfered all my saved emails over as well. I was under the impression that if it accepted your "normal" sky account password you did not need the generated one. Do you think that i should delete the account and start again ? if so will the process automaticly give me the option at some point to use a generated password ?.
Many thanks again for your input and advice.

Hi again Mark forgot to say i thought that the gererated password work round was in place re older e mail programs and thought that as New Outlook is very new that was why my Normal Sky pasword worked ok

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreNew Outlook is a PWA (Progressive Web App) and as such is basically a webpage running in a container.
Yes it is capable of having Sky email accounts added and it seems to detect them as Yahoo accounts., and will need permission to sync your details via an OAuth challenge.
If you go into the settings, you should be able to see the current state of your email account, and manage it from there. In my screenshot you can see one account is syncronised, but the others are not.

Hi Jayach and thanks for your input .Both my accounts {Sky and Hotmail} show up as "Manage" and have no red "sign in" banners or writing on them at all like your example has. The Hotmail one as previousley stated works all ok and is not the problem. Do you think i should just delete the account and start again useing a generated pass word this time ? Just can not get my head around as to why it all worked perfectly yesterday after i had set it all up and then failed to work as it was doing this morning .
Many Thanks again for your input.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreDoes seem strange, as if the only option is "manage" it sounds like it thinks it's correctly set up.
Yes you could try removing the account and then re-adding it, but I don't think you will get an option to use a generated password, as I think it will automatically go to the OAuth challenge.

Hi Jayach may i ask what you mean by go to "OAuth challenge" ?
When i set it up yesterday the only option was to put my Sky account password in which i did and as i have said previous and it all worked as it should ............................... untill this morning !
Nervous that if i start again i may end with a bigger problem than i have now. So will hang on a bit longer in case somebody comes up with a possible soultion or option.
Once again many thanks for your input !!!

Hi Jayach, I remember seeing that as part of the account set up process, to which I agreed. Went into my Yahoo account and it shows that outlook was connected yesterday 15/05/2024 which is when i did it. It also shows Mail and calender connected since 2013.
.Again I fail to understand as to why it all worked correctly yesterday but not today. I turn my PC off on an evening so wonder if a start up {reboot} this morning could have "changed" anything ??
Many Thanks for your input

Yes, that doesn't make any sense, especially as there doesn't appear to be any errors in the settings.
I don't think there will be any problem with removing the account from Outlook, and then re-adding it.
Are you running any 3rd party security software that could be blocking the access?
16 May 2024 07:44 PM
Hi Jayach, No third party security programes installed, I just use the inbuilt windows 10 security which has served me well for many years. Will see if anyone else comes up with any more ideas as to how to solve the problem over the next day or so then i will delete the Outlook account and try reinstalling it again to see what happens..
Many thanks again for all your input !!!!

Hi again Jayach . Well work this one out !!! Sat here googleing the problen and reading up on lots of similar problems in this forum {many of which you seem to have solved ! }
Got a notifcation up re the arival of an e mail. Checked my sky/outlook account and belive it or not there was an e mail complete with 6 photo atachments in it ! there was also now 2 e mails from ealier this morning that i can assure you were not there before !!! It also allowed me to forward an email to my Gmail account on my phone . I sent 3 test e mails from my Gmail account back and they was also recieved by my sky/outlook account. Is it possible in your view that there has been some sort of problem with somebodys servers today? as i have made no changes what so ever to any settings to make it now seem to work correctly AGAIN ! Any views greatly appreciated !!
Many Thanks again !!!!!

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreNo, I really can't explain that.
Obviously whilst I was testing from here the servers were functioning O.K. as I was receiving emails.
However there would be slightly different routing for you, so yes something could have been down for you.
Fingers crossed it keeps working tomorrow.🤞
