IMAP cannot connect to server effective 8 June

Hi. I've been able to use Sky / Yahoo email via Outlook 2007 for years without any problem. Effective 8 June, I can't receive emails with a message saying that IMAP can't get a secure connection to server. I've generated a new password a few times, but syill no joy. Can anyone shed light on what's going on?

Thanks.

After generaring the 16 digit password you then used this to replace the one you were using for your Sky email account ?

Yep. I was already using a 16 digit Sky PW so just generated a new one and replaced the old one. Since posting, I've also tried deleting / reinstalling my email account - but no luck. So I'm wondering if this is the end of the line for using an App as old as Outlook 2007. If it is, it would have been helpful to have some advance warning....

Are your server settings correct:

Server - imap.tools.sky.com
Port - 993
Requires SSL - Yes

When installing the account again are you able to select it as a Yahoo one, or it this is what you were doing setting it as Other then using the generated password ?

I'm still using Outlook 2003, no problems here.

Thanks - yes, server settings all good. No, when reinstalling in Outlook 2007 there's no option re. ' Yahoo / Other': you're just asked for email address, name, etc.

Re: IMAP cannot connect to server effective 8 June

Thanks Jayach - that's really helpful to know.

From what I can gather in various on-line discussions, if resetting PW and reinstalling account don't work, the last resort is something to do with purging .ost files which I think is something linked to use of IMAP as opposed to POP3. That looks way above my paygrade, so I'll need to contact my local computer expert to take a look for me!

Although I am using Outlook 2003, I am using it with POP, because I have multiple email addresses, and that is the only way I can get all the emails in the same inbox.

As long as all your emails are online at https://skyid.sky.com/signin/emailIt should be possible to just delete the OST file, as it should rebuild it when it finally connects.

If you do get someone to look at it, make sure they're aware that Outlook needs the generated password and not the account password. Not everyone will be aware of that fact.

In the meantime perhaps try using Thunderbird, it is very similar to Outlook, and is free. It will work happily with your account password as it is compatible with the latest authentication protocols that Yahoo use. Thunderbird — Make Email Easier. — Thunderbird
