My neighbour has a Sky Yahoo email account that was set up by her daughter over a decade ago. The account was used by both my neighbour and her husband. Unfortunately, her husband passed away 2 years ago. She accesses their email account through her Kindle which was set up by her husband. She uses it for bills, memories and general every day use.
However, as the Kindle was getting old she has bought a new one and asked me to set it up for her. Everything was set up fine except for the Sky Yahoo email. She doesn't know the password. Her daugher cannot remember as it was set up so long ago. We've tried a reset but we're also not aware of the first street that was used and have tried various combinations without success.
I have today called Sky for help and they were beyond useless. First call centre operative told me it would have to be dealt with by Yahoo. She gave me a number beginning with 800. I explained we don't use 800 numbers in the UK. She told me to put a 03 in front and it would work. It didn't.
I called back, second operative told me there is absolutely nothing they can do.
I called again, not happy with that and was told that as the account was set up for her husband (even though I explained it ws set up for both of them). She would lose access as it's HIS account. It isn't, it's BOTH of their accounts. He said only Yahoo could deal with it as Sky have no access to the emails accounts.
So, I contacted Yahoo...this was their response...

Hello Gary! We are sorry to hear about this situation and we appreciate the help you are providing to your neighbor. If the Account Holder is deceased, the support options vary depending on the region. Here's an article that provides more information: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/options-yahoo-account-owner-passes-sln2021.html. Since this is a Sky account, we are unable to assist with access issues or errors. Sky uses the Yahoo Mail platform, but the backend network is operated by them. You can reach them directly here: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN25426.html. Our best advice at this time would be to contact them once more, as we are unable to make any changes from our side. We hope everything works out well!
So, Sky apparently don't deal with Sky Yahoo emails...Yahoo don't deal with Sky Yahoo emails. WHO DEALS WITH THE EMAILS?

That's the easy bit. Only Sky deal with Sky Yahoo Mail accounts so there's absolutely no point speaking to Yahoo. It appears from previous posts that Sky suggest talking to Yahoo when they don't know how to proceed (Sky Yahoo Mail appears not to be widely well understood amongst advisers).
In some cases, the reset password link may give your neighbour the option of sending a reset link to her email address, as an alternative to the memorable information option. If so, that would be the simplest way around it, if your neighbour is still able to access her email account on her old Kindle.

If that option isn't available, I'd suggest she raises a formal complaint with Sky

It's through a Yahoo Mail App

Hopefully that will work. I'll pop over and see her in the moring.
Thank you for the advice.

Just tried and unfortunately the "Reset your password by email" option is greyed out. It's been a few weeks since I looked at it but it is in fact a sky.com email address so I guess it's back to sky. I might try putting in an official complaint, see if that gets any attention from them.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreIs there a backup email address setup on the account as that is where the reset email would go to, you can check this here:
https://www.sky.com/mydetails/account-info
You should still be able to reset it via that security question so is this not working either ?

@caesarome Unfortunately no backup email was ever set up for it. My neighbour is in her 70's and it's the only email they ever had. That's the reason I'm trying so hard to get this sorted for her.
I've tried multiple times with the security question. It's apparently the first street one of them lived on. As the account was set up over 15 years ago they cannot remember which one of them and what the first street was. We've tried quite a few without success. Not because they don't know thier first street but because the security answer has to be precice. for example did they use St or St. or Street. Ave, Avenue etc. If there was a spelling mistake it would also be a problem as one of the streets the Husband (who passed away) lived on could easily be spelt wrong. It's a Minefield and I get why Sky are being so strict as it is a security issue to just reset the password. She's willing to provide them with whatever ID they need.
I've emailed Sky themselves with the full detail of the situation...minus the actual email address as the second time I called Sky the adviser said they might have to delete the email adddress, so I'm not willing to give them the address until they can assure my neighbour she won't lose all of her memories from the account.
Just a side note. I did suggest a new email address to her but she's not wanting to do that.
