Gmail app with Sky email. Prevent some emails going into spam.

I use the Gmail Android app to manage my Sky email account and it works fine except for the following.

I am assuming that the content of the spam folder is determined by the Sky/Yahoo email website and that the Gmail app plays no role. Given that, I receive emails in spam which shouldn't. I have created Yahoo contacts to guide Yahoo/Sky email to treat these emails as valid but it doesn't work and they still end up in spam. 

I couldn't find anyone else asking this before now. 

Does anyone have a solution or advice?

Are you marking these emails as not spam, are they only certain emails or those from certain contacts that are ending up in your spam folder ?

Firstly check if they are in spam on the Sky email here: https://sky.com/signin/email/

If they are, then it's probably the Yahoo spam filter sending them there, so mark them as "not spam" on the website and the filter should learn not to send them there.

Can I ask what sort of emails they are? Are they personal or corporate?

I realy don't think the email contacts have any effect on spam selection.

Yes, I "mark as not spam" them and yes it's only a few email addresses.

I mark them as not spam within Gmail. Someone mentioned doing it with Yahoo instead so I've just done that.

I've done as suggested. I was doing it within Gmail. They are "corporate" in nature I'd guess.

The problem with non personal emails (i.e. those that may be being sent to many people) is that some of those people may not want them and they mark them as spam, instead of un-subscribing, and if enough people do it the spam filters mistakenly assume that is what they are.

By marking them as "non-spam" the filter should learn that you do want them.

Do let us know if it works for you, it may take a few before it learns.
