What were you doing when asked for this, accessing your Sky email account or trying to login to your main Sky account via the website ?

That'll be the Sky Yahoo email account, it does the same on mine (presumably everybodys) and I don't think it's something you setup yourself (I never ever use ISP or TV companies email accounts, you usually lose them when you leave). It sends you a text to your registered phone number and you can click a "remember me for 30 days" box to reduce the number of times it's needed.

Re: 2 step verification code
@jamie+edwards it appears from a few recent posts here that Sky have recently made 2 step login mandatory.
If you didn't make a note of the Recovery Code displayed on screen, I'd suggest turning off 2 step verification as explained here. You'll be asked to set it up again when you next log in, which will give you the opportunity to make a note of the new Recovery Code then displayed.
You can use your Recovery Code to allow you to log in if there's a problem receiving the Verification Code sent when you log in in the future.

@Mark39 I think you forgot to add the link, here it is:
Two-step verification for Sky Yahoo Mail | Sky Help | Sky.com | Sky Help | Sky.com
@jamie+edwards here is how to turn it off:

Re: 2 step verification code
@jamie+edwards at least you got an adviser who knew what they were talking about. I get the frustration about not having the choice. I do wonder if there's some sort of regulatory requirement. I can't imagine Sky investing in a legacy millstone product unless they were compelled to for some reason.
To be fair, it's not that onerous, but if you wish to, you could over time transfer to another email provider like Gmail.

Re: 2 step verification code
It's not been turned on on any of my 4 Sky addresses (yet?)
However most of my email use is via clients/apps so it shouldn't affect me.
I've no objection to 2FA in principle (it is security after all) but Sky's implementation with no way for us to administer it is a nightmare.

Re: 2 step verification code
This is awesome with no warned we are now all been locked out of our Email account unless we give Sky out phone numbers something none of us want to do for the sake of nonsense safety blah blah blah.

Not mandatory for me yet either, but no doubt it's coming my way. If it's a real concern, as opposed to a minor nuisance (which all 2 factor logins are), you could always move to an alternative email provider.

Re: 2 step verification code
This is a ruddy disgrace. How come every time you update your phone system it comes more annoying or less helpful than before. This time I have been given a "Two Step Verification" which I dont want. Now EVERY SINGLE TIME I try to log in to my emails on my lap top it tells me its sending me a code. I then have to get my phone and remember the code to put it in my lap top. They say its for our security, but whats the point if its peeing off your customers???? I dont want it but seems I have no choice. Dictatorship.....much?

Re: 2 step verification code
@S.A.T. we're customes here, same as you. Any extra security is always an inconvenience. I believe neither GMail or Yahoo currently insist on you having 2 factor authentication.

Re: 2 step verification code
Thanks, I am with Sky Yahoo mail and on logging on to my email this morning via my laptop it has insisted on sending me a 6 number code. I have NEVER had to do this before. From what I have read also, it seems its impossible to cancel too!
