moving to a new provider

I've had enough of Sky's inflated prices for TV and broadband so I'm off. I'm going to cancel the TV package by giving 31 days' notice, and I've today spoken to PlusNet who I'm moving to for broadband - they tell me I'm definitely not obliged to give Sky any notice to cancel broadband as I'm out of contract (I now have an "ongoing" arrangement) and I'm moving to a new provider. However the last contract letter I have from Sky, from February 2023 for 18 months, states "ongoing contract can be cancelled any time without penalty by giving 31 days' notice". However I found this on Sky's own website: "To cancel your Sky Broadband, you need to give us 14 days’ notice, unless you’re within your cooling off period." So which is it? No notice, per what PlusNet tell me, or 31 days per my last contract letter from Sky, or 14 days per their website? PlusNet are set to change me over in 15 days' time, ie on the 10th of September, but confirmed I can push that date back if I do in fact need to give Sky 31 days' notice. Why there's so much conflicting information around is beyond me, but I can't find anything else by searching online. Help! Many thanks.

@Salbo1970 do not give noticecto Sky as plusNet will do thst for you as part of your the Ofcom broadband switch process. Sky will write to you confirming yhe move and the switch should be seamless.

When moving to another Openreach ISP you mustn't cancel the existing service: that seriously disrupts service continuity as it necessities reprovisioning a circuit to the address with a minimum ten working day lead time.

 

As long as you are outside any minimum term with the current ('losing') provider, the switch is handled by the 'gaining' ISP.

 

The ISP you are leaving may end up charging for another billing cycle and then refunding the relevant amount.
