Re: moving ISP need to know WAN details

ok this is very weird

i updated my WAN interface to

IPv4 Configuration Type - DHCP

Option Modifiers - dhcp-client-identifier “abc12345@skydsl|abc12345”

i then lose internet access but funny is when i revery back my my previous ISP zen ie

IPv4 - PPPoE

username - my_user

password - my_password

i get internet back and my opnsense dashboard sees a WAN gateway of 2.127.xxx.xxx and when i do "whats my ip" i get

My Public IPv4:90.201.xxx.xxx

My Public IPv6:Not Detected

My IP Location:London, ENG GB

My ISP:SKY UK Limited

i dont understand as my wan settings are still zen?

@robertkwild it is likely because the exchange is accepting the DHCPv6 PD set up which does not require a log in at all but only works on roughly 80% of connectiond. If it works I wouldn't worry.

@robertkwild assuming you are in the UK not Ireland there are only two ways of connecting to a Sky service one is DHCPv4 option 61 or DHCPv6 PD according to Sky's network architect. Ireland is different.

The original reason for this option has long gone, now its presence remains a requirement primarily so we we can distinguish the Sky Hub as a DHCPv4 client from other DHCPv4 clients in your home, that may leak out over the WAN.

i.e. if your LAN is incorrectly plugged directly into the ONT, or when the Sky Hub bridges all ports together upon boot before it works out which is the WAN port.

Prior to switching CPEs or reconfiguring your CPE, be sure to click "Disconnect" if that feature is available, and disconnected the WAN interface (phone line if VDSL, or Ethernet to the ONT if FTTP), physically whilst reconfiguring, ideally for at least 15mins to make sure any old sessions are cleared out.

Switch from PPPoE to DHCP (aka. IPoE)

Leave the DHCPv4 Option 61 as "abc12345@skydsl|abc12345". The content doesn't matter, as long as it's present and follows that format.

Make sure both DHCPv4 and DHCPv6-PD clients are enabled on the WAN.

- If using FTTP: Make sure there's no VLAN tag on the WAN interface

- If using VDSL2: Make sure the WAN interface is tagged using VLAN ID 101

Re: moving ISP need to know WAN details

so in the "send options" i put in just

"abc12345@skydsl|abc12345"

or this

dhcp-client-identifier "abc12345@skydsl|abc12345"

Re: moving ISP need to know WAN details

@robertkwild

If you connect via FTTC (VDSL2), the modem or OPNsense must have a VLAN tag 101 on the WAN interface, Openreach VDSL2/G.fast modems usually have the VLAN already switched to VLAN tag 101 and third-party modems often don't in a pure bridge or other equipment you place in a bridge modem, eg: a Fritz!Box 7530 in a bridge is an example.
