iPhones Unable to Connect to Wi-Fi on ASUS Router
17 Mar 2025 12:36 AM
Hardware Setup:
• Modem: DrayTek Vigor 167
• Router: ASUS RT-AX86U Pro
Background:
I recently switched from my Sky Broadband Hub to a DrayTek Vigor 167 modem and an ASUS RT-AX86U Pro router. The internet connection is working fine through Ethernet, and my laptop connects to Wi-Fi without any issues. However, iPhones are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network but display “No Internet Connection.” This issue occurs across multiple iPhones, so it’s probably not device-specific.
What I’ve Tried So Far:
General Setup & Connectivity Checks:
• Confirmed that the modem is in bridge mode and the router is handling DHCP.
• Verified that the ASUS router shows Internet Status: Connected and has a valid WAN IP.
• Checked that my laptop connects to Wi-Fi and gets internet access successfully.
• Ping tests from the router to external sites (like 8.8.8.8) work fine.
Troubleshooting Wireless & DNS:
• Disabled Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) mode.
• Tried different DNS servers (Google’s 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4 and Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1).
• Checked Sky Shield settings to make sure it isn’t blocking access.
• Disabled Protected Management Frames (PMF).
• Disabled Airtime Fairness and Smart Connect.
• Tested both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands separately.
• Manually set static DNS settings on the iPhone.
Additional Tests:
• Checked for firmware updates on both the ASUS router and the DrayTek modem.
• Confirmed IP settings on the iPhone (it gets an IP address from the router but no internet).
• Reset network settings on iPhone.
Current Status:
• Ethernet works.
• Laptop on Wi-Fi works.
• iPhones connect to Wi-Fi but show “No Internet Connection.”
• No obvious settings seem to be blocking access.
Has anyone experienced this issue with an ASUS RT-AX86U Pro or similar setup? Any suggestions on what else to check?
