Wrong router?

I have a 500mbs service but only get a WiFi 5 service with the router sky provided. I never got a new router when I upgraded. How do I get the proper WiFi 6 router as recommended by Sky?

Thanks in advance.

By adding the WiFi Max subscription supplement.

A Sky Broadband Hub isn't the 'wrong' router for FTTP (but a Q Hub would be)

Re: Wrong router?

Tbh, I'm not sure what router I do have however the service is advertised as a WiFi 6 and I get WiFi 5. So I'm paying for WiFi 6, getting WiFi 5 but you are telling me I need to add a further subscription to get a router capable of providing the advertised service 🤷🏼. Wow.

Re: Wrong router?

@Speedie1 Take a look at the sky hubs linked below, from the pictures say what you have!

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/set-up-hub-which-sky-hub-do-you-have

You have a FF500 service from sky, that has NOTHING to do with wifi 5/6/7, takes both the sky Hub to support so the Broadband hub is wifi 5 device, the sky Max is both wifi 6 falling back to wifi 5/4/3 and the device you use has to match and THEN it may display or not the number next to the bars etc! If a phone is a wifi 5 device then that's as far as it will ever go!

Re: Wrong router?

Hi, thank you for the reply, I would say it's the broadband one not the Max one, it's definitely black in colour with 4 lights near the bottom.

WiFi Max is advertised as WiFi 6.

Sky Broadband is not, and the Sky Broadband Hub wasn't built to the WiFi 6 specification back in 2019.

Re: Wrong router?

@Speedie1 Then you have the Sky Broadband Hub SR203 or sometimes called the 4.2, it is a WiFi5 only dual band 2.4/5Ghz device.

Re: Wrong router?

Cool, many thanks again for your time, so back to the spirit of my original query, how do I get the "Sky Max" router and should they have given me that initially?

By adding the WiFi Max subscription supplement to the broadband account

and should they have given me that initially?

No: new customers get the Max Hub by default, but existing subscribers who are upgrading from FTTC and already have a Sky Broadband Hub do not.

@Speedie1

You may want to argue that this wasn't made sufficiently clear when choosing to upgrade.
