Work VPN

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone might have some ideas as I'm running out of things to try!

I work from home using a Sky Max Hub (the white hub). My work VPN remains connected, but SystemOne repeatedly crashes saying it's lost connection to the server.

So far I've tried:

- A brand new work laptop.

Connecting via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi (this seemed more stable at first but now has the same issue - when it was working it did stop me using certain applications for work)

Disabling IPv6

.- Enabling UPnP.

-Multiple troubleshooting sessions with my IT department.

The strange part is that this happens on my Sky broadband and at my parents house (who also have sky) but it works perfectly at my sister's house (Virgin Media) and in the office.

Because the issue follows the broadband provider rather than the laptop or location, I'm starting to wonder if there's something about the Sky Max Hub or a setting on the network that's causing SystemOne to lose its connection to the server, even though the VPN itself stays connected.

Has anyone experienced anything similar or found a solution? I'd really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks! 🙂

If you haven't already, try disabling Sky Broadband Shield.

The other suspicion would be that it's down to Sky using IPv4 address sharing using MAP-T.

Re: Work VPN

Ooh yes sorry forgot to mention that the shield is disabled - what would you suggest if it was the other one? Thanks 🙂

@HRLB

You'd need to contact Sky and specifically request that they check to see your circuit is using 1:1 IPv4 mapping.

They should be well aware that MAP-T is a long-standing issue with business VPNs.

@HRLB from ehat you post it does sound like MAP-T coukd beca factor although if you have UPnP ensbled youshoukd not be sharing a IP4 addresses. Sky can disable MAP-T where it is causing issues. I am escalating your post to the Sky team who support the forum who should be in touch soon to offer you a private online chat session to get this sorted. Keep an eye on the forum as if you miss the message just click the brightly coloured chat icon which will be added to the forum pages for you to use.saving a long phone call.

Re: Work VPN

Hi - I've just spoken with someone and they've created a port for my laptop - does this need activating by my works IT team? I'm trying to use my laptops system now and it's taking ages to load and then the system doesn't respond? Is there anything I need to do? I did mention about the MAP-T but they didn't really say much when I suggested it? Thanks 🙂

Working from home VPN? WiFi?

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone might have some ideas as I'm running out of things to try!

I work from home using a Sky Max Hub (the white hub). My work VPN remains connected, but SystemOne repeatedly crashes saying it's lost connection to the server.

So far I've tried:

- A brand new work laptop.

Connecting via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi (this seemed more stable at first but now has the same issue - when it was working it did stop me using certain applications for work)

Disabling IPv6/ Enabling UPnP.

-Multiple troubleshooting sessions with my IT department.

- Enabling DMZ

- Removing the shield

- Changing WAP WiFi settings (works better on WAP3 but still has tendencies to crash) - but this also stops me using other devices in my house

- Using a port for my laptop

The strange part is that this happens on my Sky broadband and at my parents house (who also have sky) but it works perfectly at my sister's house (Virgin Media) and in the office. Or can work reasonably well using my Ethernet cable

Because the issue follows the broadband provider rather than the laptop or location, I'm starting to wonder if there's something about the Sky Max Hub or a setting on the network that's causing SystemOne to lose its connection to the server, even though the VPN itself stays connected.

I have previously been told to get sky to disable with MAP-T- but they don't seem to want to do this/ won't really listen to me

Has anyone experienced anything similar or found a solution? I'd really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks! 🙂

@HRLB you posted something very similar 4 days ago and I escalated you to the Sky team who support the forum. Starting a new thread causes confusion and repetition.

Sky will only remove  MAP-T if it us likely to solve your issue which personally I suspected it wouldn't but I am far from being an expert but it sounds like Sky think likewise. Sky like most domestic ISPs cannot support third party software. A search shows the term System One refers to different applications including a NHS system, Greater Manchester Travel and a cloudcsystem for booking artists.
